Bu we don't actually know why she did this, or even if it was in fact suicide. I have every sympathy with you and your family, Raggytash; however we should perhaps wait and see what really happened here.

Steve, you're probably correct, but even now 36 after the event on September 18th 1976 I can still see the ragged faces of my parents.

Mum is still with us thankfully, aged 88, but I doubt there is a single day goes past without her thinking of the daughter she lost.

If it were not for the hysteria that surrounds the Windors this woman may still be alive with the love and support of a family herself.

One can only surmise.

I'm not a royalist (or an anti-royalist for that matter) but I think it's a bit daft to try and blame the royal family itself for this....on a par with blaming Thatcher for every economic error of the Brown government.

If it wasn't royals it'd be some other celebrity who was the "target of the week" for the media...and the media wouldn't do it if they didn't sell more papers by doing it.

(remember the "hilarious" Russell Brand/ Jonathan Ross prank phone call to Andrew Sachs?)

So, if you want to take it to its logical "Spartist" conclusion, "we are all guilty" as the go-ahead Reverend Dr Spacely-Trellis might have said.

What price would all the Royalists like to place on the life of Jacintha Saldanha who has seemingly taken her own life.

My sister committed suicide, I saw close up and first hand the devastation it caused to my parents and to the rest of our family.

No doubt you will all blame the media hacks who phoned the hospital, or blame the naive nurse who answered their queries.

I can also guess that not a single one of you will blame the stupid merry-go-round that surrounds the idiocy that is the sycophantic following of the "Royal" Family.

Sleep well Jacintha.

Carol Midgley, in her yesterday's Times2 opinion piece, devoted a column headed "That's enough baby talk" to how fed up she is already with all the royal baby stuff, echoing much that has been so predictably said by all the usual-suspect miseries on this thread.

More than one way for a journo to cash in on the occasion, eh?

"People are now saying that perhaps it might be best for Charles to stand down as the heir, as a young couple with children would be better as King and Queen when HM passes away."

One of the polls showed that only 48% of people in the UK think that Charles should automatically inherit the throne on the Queen's death. Of course he will inherit it as he is first in line. It isn't an election.

Shimrod, this may astound you but Polly IS busy, because she's trying to get The Law of Ecocide pushed through, travelling all over the world to rustle up support, giving talks, writing books etc...

I'm in contact with her team via Facebook and they're all good people. I promote Polly's talks/pages a great deal and have, just this evening been putting links about her on my page and also Raoni's page which I run as well..

As I write, I've just been told Chief Raoni, Megaron and Bemoro are all in The Netherlands...I have the greatest respect for Chief Raoni, who, despite being in his 80s now has travelled out, yet again, from his Rainforest home, first to France, now the Netherlands and possibly Germany too, (waiting to hear on this one) to try to Wake The World to the dangers we are all facing...

OHHHH! How I WISH the bloody media would have Chief Raoni on ALL their front pages!!!!

And as I write this the howling winds are yet again hitting my windows here with great force...

We're in deep shite folks...I tend to tell it like it is, rather than skirt around it, for we don't have much time to turn this all around...and as our Leaders, unlike Raoni, give sod all about Mother Earth and everything for Continuous Fecking Growth, it seems to me we may have even less time than many of us assume......

Oh..and they interviewd the bloke in Sidmouth who lost half his cliff top garden to the sea a few years back, and he was saying he thought there was around 1,000 years left before his garden and house would have disappeared into the sea. Now, he reckons it will be around 30 years..and there are calls to protect one side of Sidmouth from the raging tides, for there are grave fears that a large part of the town will soon be flooded....

I saw him quite recently at the Sandringham Flower Show, and was surprised that he's actually taller in the flesh than on TV. Believe it or not, he's also quite handsome, as he always looks awful in photos and on The News. But for some reason, I don't take to him or Camilla. Just an impression.

I have strong feelings. They should all stand down and the country should use their ill-gotten wealth to reduce the deficit instead of hitting people on benefits, who did nothing to cause the problem. Actually given Charlie's short stature, if he stood down wouldn't he disappear altogether?

Catherine has been discharged from hospital. I'm wondering if she didn't have the Winter Vomiting Bug (Norovirus) which is sweeping the country at the moment. My sister had it last week and you vomit ceaselessly for about 36 hours. If so, she should be fine for the rest of her pregnancy. People are now saying that perhaps it might be best for Charles to stand down as the heir, as a young couple with children would be better as King and Queen when HM passes away. I have mixed feelings about this.

Thalidomide, a drug developed to help women overcome the symptoms of morning sickness during pregnancy, is first marketed in West Germany. Forty-six countries approve its use before thalidomide's terrible side effects become apparent.
Thalidomide is a powerful synthetic tranquilizer, originally developed by Ciba, a Swiss pharmaceutical company. Unable to make it commercially profitable, Ciba gave up on the drug. A German company, Chemie Gruenenthal, took over and eventually began marketing thalidomide as a "completely safe" method for warding off morning sickness.

Completely safe for the royal family.
Look at the state they're in already.

Hmm. Well, it wouldn't be variably infinite, would it? Unless you mean "The contempt of the leftie for those he purports to represent is, invariably, infinite."

And I sincerely hope that you're not using "the leftie" in the generic sense there, in the way that the apartheid leaders would talk about "the black man". We don't all hold our fellow lefties in contempt, you know.

I am always amused and nauseated in about equal measure by the way that doctrinaire egalitarians like OW simultaneously hold the masses in contempt. "Royal = newspaper sales", quite simply, because millions of perfectly respectable citizens, who have just as much right to have their legal and legitimate tastes met as has the great OW, wish to read about them ~~ a taste which brings on their innocent heads the contempt and scorn of such as the we-are-all-equal-but-I-am-oh-so-superior OW.

The contempt of the leftie for those he purports to represent is invariably infinite.

It won't be my face looking back at you, for I'm standing to the side, ranting and raging about the state of the planet and that most journalists are happy to abide by The Rulings Of Their Corporate Bastard Owners and keep The Truth truly hidden from the now Dumbed-Down-Masses.

Which is more important to you?
A planet which is dying due to Human Greed and Insanity
Or, a sick, pregnant young woman who is being hounded by journalists who have *chosen* to be Complicit in this farce?

Give me The Journalist who puts Polly Higgins in their main story!
Give me The Journalist who galvanizes the entire population into getting behind Polly and her Team to make The Law of Ecocide a REALITY, for THEN we will legally be able to crush The Corporate Bastards as never before, although WHY we have to wait until it's all legal I've no idea, because with what they are doing at present, we should ALL be out there on the streets, globally, taking Mother Earth back into OUR hands and decimating the Insane Bastards who are tearing apart our planet....and taking away our Children's Futures and those of ALL generations who may, or now, who may not, come after them!

Michael, the crops have failed due to the floods. They will be bringing vegetables in from abroad this winter as we don't have any here in the UK.

In the USA the crops have failed due to droughts..We'll feel the full brunt of what this actually means next year...

Meanwhile, out in the Arctic....
Meanwhile, out in the Rainforest....

And all the fecking press can do is report on a young woman who is sick and pregnant, whilst continuing to harrass her, or they are discussing....wait for it...the new Girl Guide's oath???????

No, that's not OK with me, not OK in any way at all.

Chief Raoni, now in his 80s, is in France at present, trying to stop the Belo Monte Dam, yet again, and save more and more of the Rainforest...The French have many companies employed in building Belo Monte...yet not a single British Newspaper is covering his visit...

They SHOULD have Chief Raoni's photo and story all over their front pages, for he is fighting for us ALL and has been doing so for over 30 years now, but hey, he's not cool enough in the eyes of The Journalists!

Yeesh!!

"England has been England since 1066" Well if you are referring to the 'Kingdom of England' then it existed prior to 1066 and ceased to exist as a seperate kingdom over 300 years ago. All by the by. I still don't understand your point. You don't need to be a monarchist to be English!

The point is, England has been England since 1066... take on all comers and took that all over the world. The "English" have been top dog since 1066. And they still are. If you disagree, read a newspaper.

Is what they did "right"? That don't matter. Not to the top dog. Thus, my point. Don't bark at the big dog. It will chew your ass. Seems simple to me.

Watch a parade. Watch a Royal wedding or a Jubilee fer goodness sakes! Ya know when all those planes flying over and those boats sailing down the river? Who do you think OWNS them planes and boats and guns and nuclear weapons?

Kinda like a drunk telling the bouncer he is gonna stay at the pub after he's been asked to leave politely. Give yer heads a shake and see if they rattle. Or defy the bouncer and get yer heads rattled. 1066... 1066... read some history and tell me wins for and losses against the Crown. Go ahead and tell the bouncer yer gonna have another ale. See what happens.

At last! Something Liz and I can agree on - The press cause lots of damage. Now, if only we could agree that the internet, being unregulated and much more open to abuse, does lots more damage that the press ever have! If that happens then maybe, just maybe, we will see a drop in the number of cut and pastes from crap internet articles?

Back to the post. I am not a royalist but I would wish them no harm. Good luck to them and their offspring and I hope all turns out OK. Maybe when he gets to the throne he will apologise to the Native Americans for invading them?
