Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: SteveMansfield Date: 08 Feb 13 - 01:56 AM Actually, the Harrington is mainly not Irish these days, although Irish music remains very welcome. There's a lot more English, French, Scottish, Welsh, Scandinavian etc. The dyed-in-wool Irish players seem to have moved elsewhere. Oh that's good news, I might give the Harrington another try in that case! Went one Friday about 3 years ago and the my-reel-is-faster-than-your-reel brigade were completely strangling anyone who tried to play anything interesting .... |

Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 04 Feb 13 - 04:36 AM When the Anthony John Clarke Concert in High Lane on Feb 9th 2013 (blatant plug) is over, the front page of the web-site www.northcheshirefolk.co.uk will be getting a 'makeover' - as they say on daytime television. Navigating using the map seems to be appealing to some visitors, judging by the very limited feedback I have had, and I will be making the scale of the map larger, but I'm wondering what other changes might be necessary. Any suggestions for improvement, or notification of problems, would be welcome. As the owner of a dumb phone rather than a smart one I have no idea how easy the site is to use on a mobile device. Comments welcome. Ian |

Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: GUEST Date: 02 Jan 13 - 03:52 PM "I wouldn't describe Sale (M33 postcode) as a folk club, more of an open-mic club. There's rarely folk song or music on offer although they've had some very good guests." I don't want to get embroiled in a fruitless discussion about what is and what is not a folk club but I would say this about Sale Folk Club. On Tuesday's it is packed with performers performing a wide range of material which sits comfortably under a "folk" umbrella as far as I'm concerned - and not a mike in sight. A look at the Sale Folk Club Guests 2013 reveals artists who will be found performing at folk clubs and festivals throughout the country - I rest my case. |

Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 02 Jan 13 - 07:47 AM Thanks to Steve and Ralph the sessions at The Sportsman have been added. Also the Folk Trains and the excellent Sale Folk Club which has been added as it's 'just over the border' and was too good to miss out. If anyone knows of any more worthwhile folk sessions/clubs in the area please let me know. www.northcheshirefolk.co.uk Ian |
Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: SteveMansfield Date: 30 Dec 12 - 11:35 AM The sessions at the sportsmans in strines are organised by Ralph Smethurst. I don't think he Mudcats, so drop me a PM and I'll let you have contact details. |
Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 30 Dec 12 - 10:50 AM 1. A reminder about the Vin Garbutt re-arranged concert on January 7th at the Midway, Stockport. Tickets still seem to be available but you can get the latest information from the Midway Folk Club organisers whose website can be accessed via this link : SK1 Folk Clubs 2. Does anyone have any information about the folk events at The Sportsman in Strines? I know what's on the pub's website but would like to know more. |
Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 19 Dec 12 - 02:07 AM Web-site now contains some local social (folk) dance and morris sides. If any more need to be added please let me know. |

Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: SteveMansfield Date: 17 Dec 12 - 01:56 PM Does anyone know how to force internet browsers to load the latest version from cyberspace rather than just reloading stuff stored on the local computer? Google 'no-cache' and 'pragma no-cache' - sorry to send you via google but the Mudcat editor has defeated me even after replacing the greater-than and less-than signs with the encoded > and < signs :) |

Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 15 Dec 12 - 09:55 AM Following on from previous post the suggested folk dance clubs have been added. A separate map for dance clubs, rather than song clubs, has been added. It is accessed by clicking the rapper sword(?) symbol. You may need to refresh the web-site as I haven't worked out how to get this to happen automatically yet. At some future date the map may need to have a larger scale to fit everything in. Comments welcome. |
Subject: RE: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: Ian Hendrie Date: 15 Dec 12 - 07:16 AM Hi Mo, Including dance clubs and music sessions seems like a good idea. I will look into adding these. Producing this web-site is simply a hobby and I don't want it to become a full-time job but clubs which meet regularly with occasional special events wouldn't add much to the work-load. Of course, the more links that are created the more checking needs to be done and the more I would need to rely on people informing me of changes and corrections that need to be made. My criteria for inclusion of anything is basically simple : Is it in the SK postcode region? (I know this excludes one or two excellent clubs just 'over the border'). Does the club/session actually still exist? Some come and go and, unfortunately, I have little personal knowledge of many of them. I realise that this information is also available from other sources but I am hoping to create a simple and easily navigable hub which is as accurate as possible. If anyone wants events adding please contact me and I will do my best. Ian |

Subject: Folk Clubs in SK postcode (UK) From: GUEST,Ian Date: 14 Dec 12 - 05:47 AM A web-site has just been launched designed to give easy access to information of folk clubs and concerts in the north Cheshire/Stockport/Derbyshire area (basically the SK postcode). If anyone wants any events listing (for free!) please contact me via the web-site. www.northcheshirefolk.co.uk I hope this little venture is of use to somebody. |
