My new CD "But is it Folk, Miranda?" has escaped down its knotted sheet and is running loose somewhere:-

details:-http://www.acorn4.demon.co.uk/
- if you have someone who you have to buy a Christmas present for but you don't like, look no further.

Do you realize how ghastly that site looks on some browsers?

I get purple background, text spreading out of the boxes it starts in, and links displayed in what I think is very dark blue inside black boxes so I have to guess what's there when I click.

I doubt I'm the only one. Might help to fix this before Christmas.

Have only just updated the site - will do some tweaks.

But is it Art Miranda? Did you dare to record that one?

Acorn4, The site looks absolutely fine on my iPad. Maybe Jack's computer's up the duff? Or maybe too much home-brew? :-)   :-)

The page behaves on my Firefox, too.

It looks okay on what I'm using here (FF 7.0.1 on Win200Pro). It looked appalling last night on FF 3.6 on MacOS.

BTW - I am colour blind which accounts for some of the weird colour schemes.

Some problems with FF 17.0.1 under Ubuntu - Enter overlaps the word gig above. Last Here of the Melodeons Are Here box cut off half way. Review box text runs off the edge - recomment.. cut off, laugh.. out of the box, signature (can't read who!) behind Fifteen new....

On the details page Cover design.. overlaps Go to order... line and link is only the mailto:keith... Back has no link.

Page2: Taylor overlaps the top of the picture of a man who look worried it might fall on him. Rome overlaps the circle.

Hope the sales go well! Sorry we didn't get to see you at Bedworth this year, but Rhiannon was too ill for us to go.

Mick

I think what might have happened is that you allocated the size of those boxes to suit the fonts you're using, and those fonts aren't going to be available or exactly the same size for everybody. Hence the text fits for you but not for all of us.

The invisible links are sometimes important. What you can't see you can't buy.

Odd - I tried it on my laptop on Google Chrome and Firefox and it was fine, but on Internet Explorer there was some of the mangling of text described above.

It's actually a rather strange bit of software which lets you make a website rather like sticking things in a scrapbook, which suits my rather haphazard way of doing things.

Tried it on Safari on my Mac and it looks okay, apart from the weird colours and random-looking layout. But that uses different fonts - fonts definitely seem to be the problem.

Took a look at the coding and I must admit I find it a real mess (not your fault, Dave, but the program's). It uses CSS but then puts single cell tables inside DIV tags, which is bad practice, and also uses unclosed BR tags (i.e.
instead of the correct
).

The fonts are all defined at the top, and are pretty standard (Verdana, Times New Roman, and Arial), but no alternatives are specified, also bad practice.

Not really surprising you get odd results on some browser/OS combinations. Hard thing to check completely, but next time you might want to try a different generator.
