Subject: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: GUEST,Ted Crum (Steamchicken) Date: 24 Dec 12 - 03:47 AM Not particularly a Mudcat topic, but the relevance is that it features our very own Will Pound (folk harmonica player extraordinaire). Good to see young folk musos taking their proper place in the world and perhaps demonstrating to Mr Cowell that his is not the only route to success. |
Subject: RE: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: Dennis the Elder Date: 24 Dec 12 - 05:50 AM Not often have I been ashamed to be a Yorkshireman, but what happened at Hillsborough and the blame for the coverup rubs off on us all. Well done to all that have fought for justice and those involved in the production and presentation of this great rendition of a thought provoking song. |

Subject: RE: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: GUEST,henryp Date: 24 Dec 12 - 06:16 AM And there's a heartfelt tribute to the victims of Hillsborough by Robb Johnson - When Saturday Came. When Saturday Came -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Subject: RE: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: GUEST,Guest Date: 24 Dec 12 - 09:12 PM I, along with many others, was at the UK National Folk Festival at Sutton Bonnington when the terrible news broke. I can remember the numbness we all felt, even those with no knowledge of sport, as the scenes came over the TV. I am certain that those within the folk world never, ever believed the terrible lies that were peddled by the gutter press, politicians and the police in the ensuing days. We were even more certain through contacts with Liverpudlians that as a community, rotten apples aside, they could never be as portrayed. It seems at last that some sort of justice will be prevail and the government has, belatedly, promised to meet all legal costs (the cynics might say it is public money and perhaps the legal profession could make themselves more honest by actually providing the service pro bono and maybe that is something to push for). Sadly the families affected will never find real peace, just hopefully to use a cliche, closure. |
Subject: RE: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: GUEST,henryp Date: 25 Dec 12 - 07:47 AM The Liverpool families have come out of this disaster with great credit. They have had to fight for 23 years to reveal the truth and clear the names of the fans. Their quest has revealed serious failings in virtually every party that was involved; The Football Association Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Sheffield City Council South Yorkshire Police Force South Yorkshire Ambulance Service The Press - including Whites Press Agency, The Sun and The Spectator The Coroner The Government and Home Secretary Most shameful of all were the attempts of the police and the ambulance service to shift the blame onto the fans. Football fans suffered and died, but nobody in authority has yet been disciplined for their faults or for their part in the cover-up. |
Subject: RE: Hillsborough Collective tops the charts From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 26 Dec 12 - 02:54 AM Well done to all those who collaborated on this not only to raise money for the families but to remind people the extent of the tragedy instead of allowing it to stay swept under the carpet or forgotten. |
