I won't complain next time I can't find a flat pick.

This a wonderful, life-affirming film -- persuasive beyond almost anything else I've seen or heard of the power of music to bring joy and purpose to shattered lives.

Thank you for posting this, Guest 999.

That's a link to a trailer for a documenary about people in Paraguay who make musical instruments from material salvaged from a landfill. (The landfill is much too close to where they live.)

Thank you for that, 999.

Clearly the teacher(s) deserve credit too.

Here's a twelve minute look. Tough to get through without tears.

The video is the third pic down. You'll know where I lost it.

This is the same group of kids mentioned in a post in the "Tea Chest" thead at 17 Dec 12 - 05:00 PM, and when only a couple of people noticed it there, again in a new thread Music in the Trash.

(The video linked by the OP is one also linked in one or both of those. There are a lot of others.)

These kids deserve all the credit they can be given, and the guy who has been making the instruments must be some sort of "primitive artist" genius. The instruments should inspire people who've been making tub and tea chest basses and willow whistles to think about harps and pipe organs.

Agreed: "AMAZING!" is the best description, but "Inspiring" should be added.

John

couldn't agree more John - and I hope lots of people take time out to watch and be inspired themselves and get hit hard by hope in action for real

I first saw this a couple of weeks ago. Inspiring doesn't somehow cover the ingenuity and desire behind this venture.

Reminds me of the time we once made a drum kit from some five gallon paint tins, some draughting plastic a few sticks and some (strong) string when I was on board ship. Full drum kits were not readily available onboard medium sized naval ships at the time!!

Just goes to show that where there is a will there is a way!

Good luck to the children, teachers and instrument makers this Christmas and good fortune for the coming New Year.

Chris
