Subject: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: Mary Katherine Date: 29 Dec 12 - 12:35 PM The great bluegrass Dobro player Mike Auldridge (cofounder of the Seldom Scene and Chesapeake) died this morning after a long illness. A great musician and one of the good guys. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 29 Dec 12 - 12:50 PM So sorry to hear this but I'm glad his suffering is over. He really was one of the good guys and not the least of his accomplishments was banging out "Hail to the Redskins" at RFK with the Scene after a Redskin's touchdown. Rest in peace and thanks for all the great music and good times, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 29 Dec 12 - 01:43 PM I was honored to have Mike play Dobro and pedal-steel on several of my recordings. He was a thorough professional with exquisite taste for a musical phrase, and truly decent man into the bargain. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: Ron Davies Date: 30 Dec 12 - 07:06 AM What a shock. Not only did he set an amazingly high standard in effortless-sounding and wonderful dobro, but he had a really fine smooth voice also--Check "Bottom of the Glass" and some others. The old Seldom Scene (with Mike Auldridge, John Starling, John Duffy, and Tom Gray) were just magnificent. We in the DC area were really lucky to have them based here. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: Ron Davies Date: 30 Dec 12 - 07:10 AM "Bottom Dollar". "Bottom of the Glass" was John Starling, I believe. The old Scene had talent to burn. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: Ron Davies Date: 30 Dec 12 - 07:14 AM And I left out Ben Eldridge. Shouldn't have done that. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Mike Auldridge RIP (December 2012) From: pdq Date: 30 Dec 12 - 03:55 PM Mike Auldridge made the notes come from his heart, trascending the instrument. He was the greatest Dobro player ever, although Rob Ickes is a close second with his technical brilliance and jazz-based adventures. Jerry Douglas has a large bag of tricks but plays less music than Mike Auldridge or Rob Ickes. |
