Here's a new Auction item...

Art Thieme's classic cassette of American river songs. This cassette was never issued by a commercial record company but available only on board the Julia Belle Swain riverboat.

Titles are: Mike Fink's Bet, Stackerlee, Bayou Sara, The Julia Belle Swain Blues, Lost Jimmy Whalen, What Does the Deep Sea Say?, Goin' to Cairo, The Lake of Ponchartrain, State of Illinois, Waterbound, The Embarrass, The Big Catfish, The Shanty Boy, The Rock River Valley.

This is a great cassette. Why do I want to get rid of it? #1, to benefit Mudcat. #2, I bought one copy and liked it so much that I bought another. To my surprise, it had the same songs on it! How can that be?

Postage free in the USA, Canada, UK or Ireland. 100% benefit to Mudcat. Auction closes Sunday, 7NOV.

All the best,
Dan Milner

I'd bid. But (in the words from Monty Python and the Holy Grail) I already got one. The wonderfully pathetic Lost Jimmy Whalen has been a favorite of mine.

Lost Jimmy Whalen is probably the most classicaly Irish Irish-American song I've heard and Art does a really fine job with it.

Frank Harte wrote me about Lost Jimmy Whalen a few months back and I sent him what was a spruced-up copy of Art's version. I'm sure he's singing it now. THis would not be the first Irish-American song to make an Eastbound transatlantic trip.

All the best,
Dan Milner

Art feels the bidding has reached a staggering height. I disagree with him. However, because we're on a roll here and because Max's lawyer probably wouldn't pick up the phone for less than $40, I'm going to sweeten the pot in the hopes of keeping the momentum going. The winning bidder will receive a totally free Iceland VHS video at no additional charge. One condition: the winning bid has to be more than the current $32 offer. If this seems very scholcky to you, I'm inclined to agree. On the other hand, hear Art - see Skarpi! What a combination!

All the best,
Dan Milner

There is one crowded street scene, kat.
