Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Midchuck Date: 12 Jan 13 - 07:23 AM Well, probably my triple bypass. Although I don't actually remember it at all. Remember the rehab process pretty well, though. P. |
Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: wysiwyg Date: 12 Jan 13 - 07:32 AM Hm! As a matter of fact, I've been enjoying knowing that the year of my lifechanging surgery was the same year the NHL suspended games... making it easier to place both in time accurately when I look back and wonder when certain things happened. Plus-- while I was laid up NONE of the facilities had hockey on cable, so I didn't have to stew over missing the games! :~) ~S~ |

Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: SteveMansfield Date: 12 Jan 13 - 07:50 AM Saturday 16th June, spent in the Unitarian schoolroom at Stannington outside Sheffield at an all-day concertina workshop with the great Robert Harbron. Six months later I'm still trying to put into practice stuff I learnt that day, and I think it was one of the most useful music workshops I've ever been to. |

Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: SteveMansfield Date: 12 Jan 13 - 09:00 AM Ah, if only Mudcat had an edit button ... And I've just remembered that my other highlight was the Alistair Anderson and Dan Walsh duo concert at The Midway club in Stockport. Duelling concertina & banjo, prodigious stuff! |
Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Doug Chadwick Date: 12 Jan 13 - 09:41 AM 2012 was most memorable for me as the year that I retired from work. I went to the Gainsborough Old Time Festival, the Yorkshire Gathering, Robin Hood's Bay folk weekend and Whitby Folk Week and thoroughly enjoyed them all. As the last 3 were after my retirement, I was able to arrive early to set up camp on the day the events started and stay over until the day after everything had finished so that I could pack up at my leisure. Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Elmore Date: 12 Jan 13 - 09:56 AM Personally, had a stent installed. Musically saw Wagner's Ring cycle twice; once in opera class, once on PBS. Damned boring year. |
Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Anne Lister Date: 12 Jan 13 - 03:30 PM Personal list - had to help put parents into residential nursing care and pack up their home. Sold our house, moved into rented accommodation. Acquired fantastic kitten. Lost fantastic kitten to a road accident. Had two great holidays. Reached a memorable age and gained a bus pass. Music? Was there any? |

Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Bill D Date: 12 Jan 13 - 05:38 PM HA! After the FSGW Getaway, Deckman's project may have been MY most memorable, as it let me hear once again a singer I hadn't heard in 50 years. |
Subject: RE: Most memorable event 2012 for you From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 12 Jan 13 - 07:46 PM Being involved in a show at the National Folk Festival. I wasn't on stage, I was manager!!! We almost have a video of that show to share with the world. It was in the run-up to Australia's oldest folk club turning 60 in 2014 This year we are running a Family dance where members (40s to late 70s) & their children (5 years to early 20s) provide the music for children & their families. Next year ... I'm still building that empire. I'm hoping for another 90 min. extravaganza like last year's (oral history, reminiscences, singing, music & dancing) as well as workshops of tunes & songs & dances our members have collected or written over 60 years. sandra |
