Subject: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: MartinRyan Date: 14 Feb 13 - 11:03 AM Looks like I may manage to get to this festival again, this year... Easter weekend. Click here Regards |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: GUEST,ageing Folky Date: 14 Feb 13 - 01:15 PM This looks like a great event, which I shall try and get too. I have been to the Waterways Museum before but not to the Shanty fest. If you only go on one day, for me it would be Sunday when " Scolds Bridle" are appearing. If you have not yet seen these two Ladies then give them a try. Great harmony and songs of the Sea. |

Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: MartinRyan Date: 31 Mar 13 - 05:18 PM Made the Saturday afternoon singaround and enjoyed it very much. All prejudice apart, I reckon the highlight was my wife Josephine singing her version of Lady Franklins Lament with the audience quietly humming melody and harmonies. Magic ! Regards |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: GUEST,ragman Date: 31 Mar 13 - 06:24 PM I'll second that Martin. Well sang Josephine. |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: Matthew Edwards Date: 01 Apr 13 - 06:33 AM Enjoyed hearing you sing Flying Cloud, Martin! It was so bitterly cold though; I hope all the campers survived. The Belgian shanty group, Males de Mer, found a great way to keep warm with their action songs. Matthew |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: nutty Date: 02 Apr 13 - 02:38 AM What a brilliant weekend. The chill wind that blew over the site couldn't mar the warmth of companionship and fun that pervaded this weekend . There were smiles everywhere and complete admiration for the artists who battled with frozen fingers when trying to play their instruments. The museum itself was bustling with activity and there were occassions when the sun shone and you could pleasantly sit and watch the canal barges moving through the locks. This was my second visit and I would recommend that anyone to who hasn't already been should make the visit in 2014. Well done to all involved. Pictures and video will eventually be posted on the Shanty UK website. |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: GUEST,Les Sullivan Date: 02 Apr 13 - 04:47 AM Back home exhausted!! great weekend faultless from an artists point of view I have no idea how Julia Derek and the team managed to pull it off very well done! |
Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: GUEST,Doxy Date: 02 Apr 13 - 02:23 PM WOW!!! What a weekend! We can't begin to tell those of you who missed it what it was like. Over thirty artists all of whom were a pleasure to listen to and to spend time with. The Museum is an amazing venue. To be able to sing maritime music in the historic dock buildings is a treat beyond belief. Shanty Jack singing about a 'horizontal social worker' in the dock buildings she would have frequented... priceless. Males de Mer were excellent again, Hissyfit were electric, Scolds Bridle did an evening concert set that was transcendent...... Newcomers The She Shanties' surprised and delighted. Hughie Jones joined us again and supported us as he has done every year. I would mention everyone who was booked, because all of them were of a high quality and had something special to offer, except I would be on all night. Performers, song writers and our host of volunteers all joined together to create a special weekend of music and comradeship. The event was made by the audiences who appreciated the music and were a delight to sing to and with. The sing around which ran all weekend also had some rare delights, treasures of songs not frequently heard. Thank You All, Doxy and Himself PS dates for 2014 18 to 20th April. Put it in your diary, we will be back. We already have fifteen artists confirmed!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: GUEST,Sue vG Date: 02 Apr 13 - 02:32 PM This was a really great weekend. Subject: RE: Ellesmere Port Shanty Fest? From: Snuffy Date: 03 Apr 13 - 07:02 AM An excellent weekend, despite the unseasonable weather. It was great to meet up with old friends - and to make some new ones. We heard some excellent singing both in the performance slots and the singarounds, and heard nothing but good reactions from the punters we spoke to. Well done to the organisers and all the volunteers. Looking forward to 2014 already |
