I compared the above lyrics to the sheet music at Brown University's web site, and found, not only the bottom/button confusion, but also that a big chunk of the chorus was missing:

Yes, Leenia, you're quite right, the sheet music confirms the correct word is buttons rather than bottoms. Mind you, pants without bottoms would be rather draughty, I fear!

Surely that's supposed to be buttons, not bottoms. I've been sewing clothes since 1962, and I've never heard of pants with bottoms.

With the centenary of the First World War coming up, I'm brushing up my WWI repertoire for a few performances next year. I've got "Sister Susie's sewing shirts for soldiers" off pat, but I remember hearing a follow-up song which I can't find anywhere now. I don't know if it was written by the original writers, R P Western & H Darewski. Does anyone know the title, and has anyone got a recording or a link I can crib from please?
