Subject: Req. for lyrics From: Petra (pacosgrove@fortlewis.edu) Date: 10 May 97 - 01:10 PM A question for all good gentles... I'm looking for the lyrics to two songs, both of which have been done by Steeleye Span Thanks everyone! :) Petra |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Date: 10 May 97 - 08:42 PM please!!! Do not begin a thread 'request for lyrics' Put something in the title that will catch someone's attention! Name of group, title of song-anything to identify your thread. What would happen if every thread started 'request for lyrics'? |

Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Petra (pacosgrove@fortlewis.edu) Date: 10 May 97 - 10:22 PM (ratzen fratzen enter key) Thank you for your very good point, you're right, I should have realized that, and the situation has been fixed. However, I was in a hurry, and was not thinking, no one is perfect, and your reply did not need to be quite that..... harsh. And if every thread started w/ 'request for lyrics' you would be very busy wouldn't you? Petra A. Cosgrove |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Peter Timmerman Date: 12 May 97 - 10:50 AM Dear Petra, If no one else enters this in the next two days I will - am away from home. I only have Pirate Jenny. The original is in German by Kurt Weill and Bertold Brecht, and Judy Collins did do it as "Pirate Jenny". Historical note for the hell of it: it was very influential on early Bob Dylan -- his political narrative songs -- as his girlfriend Susan sang it professionally. Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Date: 12 May 97 - 06:52 PM "However, I was in a hurry, and was not thinking,"---said by so many "no one is perfect, and your reply did not need to be quite that..... harsh. " Was it harsh? I'm sorry, I did not mean it to be harsh...only direct and to the point. After a few times of trying to make the point, one sometimes is less than polite. I apologise.
"And if every thread started w/ 'request for lyrics' you would be very busy wouldn't you? " No, I would not be here if they were all that way!

Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Tilell Date: 18 May 97 - 05:28 PM Hmmmm. . . "'I was in a hurry and wasn't thinking' said by so many." A bit judgemental aren't we? And why, pray tell, are all of your bits of wisdom and instruction sent with no name attached? Sorry if this is "harsh". . . I wasn't thinking, and it sounds like I'm not the only one. |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Date: 19 May 97 - 06:33 AM I think some of us have too much time on our hands! You were being told that for your own good, and none of us has the time to reply to every "request for lyrics" !! Accept the criticizm like an adult and move on! Good God! |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Petra (pacosgrove@fortlewis.edu) Date: 20 May 97 - 10:36 PM Too much time on our hands, yet you didnt' take the time to read who the note was from, did you? Seems that I'm not the only one who uses that too much time unwisely. I was wrong, I will be the first to admit that, as I did above, and once I had replied to you, I was willing to let it go. However, hearing you snap at a friend, knowing that said snap was intended for me, led me to pondering. Just as I need to learn to take my time and think more, which I do intend to do as this whole riotous mess has led me to a lot of thinking, you need to control your temper. No, the conversation did not need to continue, which is why I did not reply, but I am not Tillel, I don't hide behind names, or lack thereof. I am exactly who I state to be, you check my addy and you will find that it does lead to an e-mail account, and I will be the one that writes you back. But there was no need for you to reply to Til in the tone that you did. plain and simple, he did not ask for it. and I'm sorry that I'm having to post this on the boards, I would rather be able to mail this to you in private, but as you're hiding, that's impossible. I admit that I WAS WRONG in the titling of this, for which I ask most humbly for your forgiveness. However, you were not right to so wrongly treat my friend. Petra A. Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Bobby O'Brien Date: 21 May 97 - 08:36 AM This was an amusing little series of notes :) |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Murray Date: 24 May 97 - 02:48 AM The point, however harshly made, was a valid one: it is thoughtless and self-defeating to start the query with vague phrases about "lyrics sought" ["words" is shorter, don't you think?], since the main topic is the song itself [isn't it?]. We waste space in that minuscule bit that's allowed for the thread title [query: why not longer??] by putting anything other than a "short title", e.g. "Beggarman"-- and if we have enough room, then add "words" or whatever. After all, we put queries on this site to be read, and as every tyro writer knows, you've got to have a hook to catch the attention; which "lyrics wanted" is not. |
Subject: RE: Req. for lyrics From: Tilell: GMTREMBLAY@FORTLEWIS.EDU Date: 25 May 97 - 02:45 PM ::laughing:: ENOUGH!!!!! Allright, the point has been made and we've all vented our various agressions and views. I am as much guilty of this as anyone else, but let's get back to why we're all here. . . . our love of music. An apology, to. . . . ? Well, to whoever you are with no name: I am sorry to have lashed out at you, but Petra is a good friend and it irks me to see people scolded with no thought involved. . . . and as for lashing back at her for my message. . . well I won't go into that as it would drag this on for far too long. But at any rate. . . please accept my personal apology for my actions, and join me in apologizing to the board in general for all of our tempers. We are here out of mutual interest, let's all try to be calmer and enjoy the fellowship which grows from that interest.
Thank you, and DO keep a song in your heart. Gregory McMaurice Tremblay gmtremblay@fortlewis.edu panther@eotd.com
