Subject: Looking for your favourite folk songs From: wallster Date: 14 Mar 13 - 04:17 AM I'd like your help please in compiling a list of the most loved folk songs. What I need you to do is to decide on your 25 favourite folk songs (or a smaller number if you prefer), with artist name and song title, and send these to me by email to nctwall@hotmail.com no later than 30th April 2013. I'll leave the question of what is a folk song essentially up to you. The songs may be in any language, or instrumentals, and they can be old or new. Let's say don't include anything on which you performed. If the song's been recorded by different artists, just choose your favourite version. I'm from the UK, I run the the music site http://musictodiefor.wordpress.com, and the list will be published here when it's complete. Thank you in advance - looking forward to receiving some wonderful nominations ! Nick Wall |
Subject: RE: Looking for your favourite folk songs From: MGM·Lion Date: 14 Mar 13 - 05:23 AM Not sure what you mean by "Artist's name", Nick. Are you actually looking for people's favourite recordings of particular songs, which is what that sounds like? If so, that is hardly the same as asking for 'favourite folk songs' or 'the most loved folk songs', is it? Please clarify exactly what you are after. ~M~ |
Subject: RE: Looking for your favourite folk songs From: wallster Date: 14 Mar 13 - 04:29 PM It's 25 favourite folk songs, whatever comes to you, whether you think first of the songs or of certain recordings. I'll accept song titles without artists names, but if you can give an artist's name as well then this will help me. On the published list you'll be able to click and listen to every song, so I want to make sure that the versions I'm putting up on the site are the versions that you would have chosen. |
Subject: RE: Looking for your favourite folk songs From: Susanne (skw) Date: 30 Mar 13 - 03:56 PM I have to second Michael's question: By 'artist', do you mean the performer or the author? Not least here on Mudcat, too often we've seen myths of authorship perpetuated by people who did not realise that the performer they like best is not necessarily the song's author. In your list, you should thus list both author and performer. |
