The problem with textbook definitions of socialism is that they seem to treat it as an all-or-nothing proposition. In fact, all modern societies naturally contain a certain amount of socialism...usually mixed in with a certain amount of capitalism. It doesn't HAVE to be all one or all the other, and it very seldom is.

Therefore, any president of the USA is in fact governing over a partially socialist and partially capitalist system no matter how you look at it, so does that make him "a socialist"? Or "a capitalist"? Only if you ignore all the stuff that doesn't fit your textbook definition.

We've had numerous discussions here going way back about what socialism is...and it is a number of things besides what the dictionary bothers telling you in its brief definition. Every single thing that is done through government funding (taxation), and by government-employed personnel is socialist in nature. That includes things like public libraries, public parks and recreation facilities, airports, harbours, environmental agencies, water regulation agencies, public health facilities, public schools, fire departments, police, armed forces, courts and legal system and jails, garbage collection, highway maintenance....every frickin' thing imaginable that is there to take care of a general and very obvious public NEED rather than to make a profit for the owners of a privately owned business.

He is breaking the law and it has me in stitches.
He hasn't done anything to enforce federal marihuana laws in Colorado or Washington State.
That is a violation of his Oath of Office.
And makes him an accessory to the crimes.

N.G., The people in Colorado voted to legalize it, as they did Washington. Stated have that right. In California, they also voted to ban homosexuals from marrying, but that is being contested, as you know. One is said to be a Constitutional issue, and the other is from legislation brought forth later, thanks to Hearst and LaGuardia. Seems that Hearst, who owned the largest newspapers in last century, bought up a lot of the forests in California in which to make pulp paper, the paper from which newsprint paper is made from. Hemp paper was also used, but to protect his investment, and own the lion's share of newsprint, he launched a massive campaign, via his papers, against his competitors. The rest is history.
