Subject: April Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 16 Apr 13 - 08:59 AM Our monthly shanty, forebitter, and ballad song session will be happening this Saturday, April 20th, at The Press Room on Daniel St. in Portsmouth, NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. Tom, alas, has been missing the Friday trad sessions since February and then missed last month's shanty sing because he fell in front of The Press Room the evening before. He's been working with some off-and-on foot and ankle pain that's made walking problematic. But the pain has been considerably less lately and he's making great progress with his physical therapist. And, fortunately, the weather looks as if it will cooperate this week. Who knows, might even start acting like spring. So, with a clear sidewalk and lots of incentive, Tom will definitely try to be at Saturday's sing. Hope we see YOU there! Linn |

Subject: RE: April Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 20 Apr 13 - 09:29 PM Yes, LOTS more singers plus two groups -- one from Connecticut and the other from Vermont -- who wandered in by accident (for a late lunch) and enjoyed the music intensely. One gentleman even gave us a song (after requesting a number of others). More tomorrow. Linn |

Subject: RE: April Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 21 Apr 13 - 09:09 AM Let's get started. First, the crew -- Curmudgeon (Tom Hall) and I, of course, Dianne Lavoie, Mike Modern from Kittery, Maine (I think the only representative from Maine this month), Bob Eaton, Steve from Gloucester and his wife, Erin & Lindsay Weaver from Vermont, Don Hale from waaaay south in Massachusetts, Jeri, Ernie Pigeon & Amy from Newburyport, MA, W.B., Justine Donovan & Steve Smith, Carol Coronis, Barbara Benn, Jean Jennings(!!! -- we don't see her often enough), Jeff Warner, and Irish singer newly arrived in the area Sean Fell. Subject: RE: April Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: GUEST,Don Hale Date: 21 Apr 13 - 11:34 PM Yet another Fun Session! Linn, a couple of notes re: the song titles. #27: Given as "Fire! Fire!" with "Fire Down Below" in parenthesis on the "Short Sharp Shanties, Vol. 1 CD. Should help differentiate it from the more familiar one Jeri sang. #39: Should be "Feeny Brown", as sung by Barry Finn. Don |
Subject: RE: April Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 22 Apr 13 - 08:44 AM Thanks, Don. I always appreciate corrections, etc. If I don't know the title, I try to research it, but sometimes my remembered lyrics (from my notes) just don't hit the right combination. (Or I just plain have a brain cramp.) Linn |
