The first song is John Barleycorn (I did not RC)

and

The Sheffield Crucible's production of My Fair Lady was at the start of this year.

Today's Afternoon Drama on BBC Radio 4 - The Colour of Milk - featured Carly Bawden in the lead role, as well as singing a number of traditional English songs in the background. She was so good, I made a point of listening closely to the credits at the end to hear who did the singing.

(Personally, I think the music -- background & otherwise -- in the BBC's period drama productions is something of a hidden, under-appreciated gem (no, make that treasure chest -- with loads & loads of lovely little gems inside it!). They get such superlative musicians/performers to arrange, play, sing (and sometimes compose) it. For me, it is one of life's little pleasures, and makes me savour the day (as well as the music) -- and my life -- that bit more.)

"Carly Bawden," thought I, "Why haven't I heard of her before?" and promptly Googled her. Turns out she wowed the critics as Liza Doolittle in the Sheffield Crucible's production of My Fair Lady towards the end of 2012.

Anyway, if you have a little time to spare in your day, treat yourself: even if you only listen to the first bit, where she is singing (IIRC) The Trees They do Grow High...
