Subject: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: dick greenhaus Date: 29 May 13 - 05:46 PM If you're one of the many folks who have enjoyed searching through CAMSCO Music's collection at the Old Songs Festival, this year will be your last chance. An upcoming move to more confined quarters, as well as the limitations of an increased (shall I say) maturity, has made the logistics of festival sales impracticable. Storing and jackassing around a few thousand CDs, a bunch of books, as well as the requisite tents, tables, lights, etc. has begun to get old (like me). So, if you have holes to fill in your CD collection, prepare lists of what you already have, and I wish you happy browsing. Oh yes, bring money. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Jeri Date: 29 May 13 - 06:26 PM ...and possibly your kids' (or grandkids') little red wagon. My first response was "Oh, no they can't!" but I understand. Still, no more CAMSCO is a little traumatic. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Leadfingers Date: 29 May 13 - 06:33 PM That will be the end of another era Dick !! Does that mean the writing is on the wall for all CAMSCO activty in the near future ? |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: kendall Date: 29 May 13 - 07:07 PM I hate the passing of time. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: dick greenhaus Date: 29 May 13 - 07:54 PM Leadfingers- CAMSCO will continue and expand its book publishing program; WE'll continue handling mail order for CDs, but we'll be cutting back a bit on what we inventory. For the immediate future, we'll be playing it by ear. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 29 May 13 - 09:03 PM CAMSCO is an excellent resource! Good luck with your move, Dick. sandra |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Midchuck Date: 30 May 13 - 07:00 AM Kendall, we NEED time, in order to keep everything from happening at once. What I think you are actually saying you hate is the Inevitable Deterioration of the Meat. Thus modified, I concur. I think, given the number of '50s - '60s folkies on this forum, the sentiment approaches unanimity. P. |

Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: GUEST,sciencegeek Date: 30 May 13 - 12:57 PM Dick... as long as you and Susan can show up (sans the burden) and enjoy the festival is the more important issue. And no more trips to the ER.. OK! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Susan of DT Date: 30 May 13 - 01:43 PM We plan to keep coming, but without the hassle of setting up the booth and lugging thousands of CDs. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Elmore Date: 30 May 13 - 02:56 PM Just hearing about Old Songs makes me sad. Went to about 28 of 'em, but moved to North Georgia. There's a fair amount of folk music here, but nothing like Old Songs. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: bbc Date: 31 May 13 - 08:45 AM I'm sorry, but not surprised. As others said, hope to keep seeing you, regardless! love & hugs, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Susan of DT Date: 20 Jun 13 - 02:39 PM We are moving to a retirement community in Lansdale PA. If you are among the 350 folkies I have in my address book, you will get details later, or PM one of us. The CAMSCO 800 number and email should remain the same. Mine and the numbers behind the CAMSCO numbers will be changed. We cannot get our new phone and email until after Old Songs - I had hoped to have new cards printed, but we won't have the info. Guest - If you are WYSIWYG, we will be about an hour closer to you, which will make visits easier. |

Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Jun 13 - 12:57 PM Just assume I tossed in some joke about getting older, moving and "movements." Then let me wish you both all the best in the future. You are an invaluable resource and we owe you a lot. You won't get much more than that because as you know, most folkies are pretty much broke......... All my Best, Spaw |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: voyager Date: 21 Jun 13 - 01:15 PM Dick - Your 'transitional note' got me to place a CAMSCO order today. Learned a lot from you at the festivals (like FSGW Get Aways). Always remember your story about Bascomb Lunsford and your performance down in NC (back in the day). Cheers voyager |

Hope to see many friends! I will be at music sessions & at the Folk Legacy booth, between times, where Duane D will be holding down the fort with Caroline Paton. love, Barbara |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Susan of DT Date: 27 Jun 13 - 11:35 AM The CDs are in the car. The big stuff was loaded into Eric and Hilary's van. Just a little more to load. We hope to come back with a lot fewer CDs. Remember - THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE TO BUY FROM CAMSCO AT OLD SONGS. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: bbc Date: 27 Jun 13 - 03:27 PM Safe travels! See you soon! |

Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: CupOfTea Date: 27 Jun 13 - 11:07 PM I'm sitting here in Cleveland wishing I were at Old Songs counting out my savings into Dick & Susan's hands for music. Empty piggy bank kept me at home again this year. Of the people/things/events with long and glorious traditions, I think most traditional music enthusiasts are well aware of what an incredible job CAMSCO has done in giving us access to wonderful songs and singers, and are thoroughly greatful. I can still remember several decades back, my first experience of CAMSCO at a folk festival. I was overwhelmed by the choices and asked Dick Swain to pick me out something he thought I'd like. I've still got those cassettes, and gingerly put them through my aging sound system now and then - first sound of David Weber and Anni Fentiman (hope I spelled them right) among them. Sorry to miss the last "stand" but ever greatful for your work, Joanne in Cleveland (who will ausuage the Missing-Old-Songs pain slightly by an Irish festival & local outdoor show of Mustard's Retreat with Peter Yarrow) |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: sciencegeek Date: 28 Jun 13 - 07:15 AM sigh, this weather & Mike coming down with a cold has altered our plans once again. I had hoped to meet up with Allan C ... but maybe another year. Can anyone going to OS leave a message and apology for missing him with Dick or Sue for Allan. We had thought to meet up at the musical candy store. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 28 Jun 13 - 07:39 AM We are wishing we had an ark, but we are packing extra tarps and dry clothes and we'll be Old Songs bound in a few hours! |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Jeri Date: 28 Jun 13 - 07:46 AM I'm packed, mostly. It always feels like I'm going for a week instead of 2.5 days. Chairs and raincoat are still in the care from last year. Maybe put some big garbage bags in. "Fashion by ForceFlex...) Sciencegeek, if I see Allan C, I'll let him know, in case a hoard of Mudcatters haven't already told him. Must remember money... and checkbook. Garbage bags, duct tape, "no officer, it's not to put bodies in..." See y'all later. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Midchuck Date: 28 Jun 13 - 08:27 AM We no longer have our "camper" van, and are past the age for sleeping on the ground, wondering if a puddle will choose to form where we put our tent. And motels plus the associated driving back and forth aren't worth it. So we had figured on coming down early Saturday and driving home late. A long day, but we could do it with two drivers. Then we looked at the weather forecast, as well as the immediate past weather, and the prospects for Mud and Mosquitoes. And decided to stay dry at home. Maybe next year...? P. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: sciencegeek Date: 28 Jun 13 - 09:28 AM thanks, guys... and I know exactly where Midchuck is coming from... the joints have been groaning since last night... the jam session at the spaghetti supper was fun, but I could hardly hear myself or the pickers thanks to clogged ears. Ibuprophen... don't leave home without it... LOL We'll have to take solace in the open mike at the local coffee shop down in Dansville. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: Elmore Date: 28 Jun 13 - 10:02 AM Been to 29 of these, and looks like the best lineup ever. Stuck in North Georgia forevermore. I'd take a chance on the weather. Would somebody let me know how it all went? Have fun. |
Subject: RE: Old Songs Festival---CAMSCO's Last Stand From: bbc Date: 29 Jun 13 - 09:37 PM Sciencegeek, both Jeri & I let Allan know that you couldn't make it. He was sorry to miss you. Nice treat to see jacqui & the captain! I saw Don Meixner's booth, but no Don. Hope all isall is well! Lots of rain on Friday, but nice weather on Saturday! bbc |
