Subject: Florida chantey sing: Wed 19 June 2013 From: crism Date: 13 Jun 13 - 02:14 PM Last month's sing went very well. It's almost time for the next one! I assigned homework (-: to the musicians I knew who were there but who didn't sing. Let's hope they did it. These monthly sings are in Gainesville, at The Midnight on South Main St., 8–10 pm on the third Wednesday of the month. As is typical, chanteys, forebitters, or any song that can be remotely connected with water is welcome. For those of you who use Facebook, there is an event posted. |

Subject: RE: Florida chantey sing: Wed 19 June 2013 From: ChanteyLass Date: 20 Jun 13 - 09:08 PM It sounds like a fun evening filled with great songs. If I was in FL instead of RI, I would try to go to one of these. And I'm a year-round RI-er, not a snowbird. |

Subject: RE: Florida chantey sing: Wed 19 June 2013 From: Old Grey Wolf Date: 16 Jul 13 - 05:58 PM Sounds like a really good evening, but unfortunately it's 4000 miles away! I'm a bit puzzled by your list of Chanties/Shanties which includes "On Ilkley Moor baht 'at" (On Ilkley Moor without a hat). Where does this fit in with a sea/water shanty?, also "Martin Said to His Man". I do hope someone takes up your mantle when you've moved on, this kind of music is part of everybody's history. Best regards, Ralph, Gleaston, Cumbria. |
Subject: RE: Florida chantey sing: Wed 19 June 2013 From: crism Date: 22 Jul 13 - 04:43 PM Hi, Ralph! It's an open sing, and I'm not a fascist, so if someone wants to sing "On Ilkley Moor baht 'at," I'm not going to stop them. Someone has taken it on; see the July thread for more info. |
