Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: GUEST Date: 27 Sep 13 - 07:51 AM Looking forward to tonite. History Ireland Hedge School have changed their debate on the Famine from 7 to 6 o clock in Dublin Castle to ensure I won't miss the start, and Nic Jones is set on the recorder for when I get home. Could be a long night! |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: MartinRyan Date: 30 Sep 13 - 10:06 AM Just back from another great festival weekend. Great sessions, excellent concert and a splendid Sunday morning walk round parts of Dublin associated with the great lockout of 1913. No shortage of 'catters there, either! Regards |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: GUEST,Pat 'deVerse' Burke Date: 30 Sep 13 - 02:35 PM T'was a great weekend. Am quite tired at end though. Great singers, songs & yarn spinning & an All-Ireland hurling final replay in-between (best county triumphed!!!) Very funny how the anti-austerity march co-incided with end of our Sunday singing/walking tour at the Larkin statue too! Pity I had to dash home from Night before Larry song session later....fine young singers, it appears the tradition is in good hands! |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: Matthew Edwards Date: 30 Sep 13 - 04:50 PM A great weekend; as Pat says it was it was a fantastic piece of serendipity to finish singing The Red Flag at Jim Larkin's statue, only to see the anti-austerity march come up O'Connell Street. It brought history to life. Pat's own song about the 1913 Lockout 'The Martyr James Byrne' was one of the many highlights of the walking tour, but credit especially to Francie Devine for his part in planning and guiding the walk. Thanks to everyone at the Góilín for such a wonderful time! Can't wait until next year. Matthew |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: Fergie Date: 30 Sep 13 - 08:59 PM People came from near and far. From Scotland, England, Wales, Germany, Norway, France and Italy. They came from Australia and the USA and every corner of Ireland north and south, east and west. They came to hear the voice of the people. They were not disappointed. The 8th annual Frank Harte Festival was in a word, brilliant. Friends and fellow Mudcatters; if you have an interest in traditional singing, an interest in songs and in the beauty and power of the human voice to touch the heart and the spirit then you owe it to yourself to experience what we attendees of the Frank Harte Festival enjoyed this weekend. My advice is to get to Dublin next year and revel in the sheer joy and exuberance that is the Frank Harte Festival. You will not be disappointed. Fergus |

Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: GUEST,Diva Date: 01 Oct 13 - 05:05 AM I can only echo what the bhoys have said above. It was a wonderful weekend lots of great songs and singers, lots of laughs and a few tears too but we were nane the waur o' that. A huge thank you to all at An Goilin who work hard every year to make this one of my favourite weekends. |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: GUEST,Pat 'deVerse' Burke Date: 01 Oct 13 - 02:09 PM Glad you all liked 'The Martyr James Byrne'. It should be uploaded to Youtube shortly. I'm relying on the 'bould Twangman' Mick Dunne for this. I can write the songs, but I'm not too au fait with the technological aspects of Youtubing, I'll leave that to the above average singer & excellent songwriter Mick Dunne himself! |
Subject: RE: 2013 Frank Harte Festival, Dublin From: GUEST,Diva Date: 02 Oct 13 - 07:57 AM Aye I loved his opening comment about being an 'average' singer...the boy done good! Vexed I missed the walk but look forward to the You Tube thingy |
