Subject: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Jack the Sailor Date: 04 Jul 13 - 08:41 AM I've tried to link to a post twice but if the thread gets longer than 50 posts it seems to stop working. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 04 Jul 13 - 01:18 PM Are you saying that the "Make a link ("blue clicky")" function isn't working if you've opened a thread by clicking the number instead of a name? (Not mentioning the little "d") You can hand code a thread, if that's what you're asking about, to put one into a post. Links may expire, they usually continue to work in the longer pages if you're talking about opening/visiting a link already here. But you know that. If the link is long you can post by shortening a thread at BitLy or TinyURL. |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Jeri Date: 04 Jul 13 - 01:34 PM The posts in descending order by 50 posts each page, the "d" means that when you click on page 1, you get the most recent 50 posts. The number of the specific post you want to link to moves to the 2nd page when more posts are added, the 3rd, then... you get it. Making that link go to page "1", post "#xxxxx", and nothing happens because it's not there any more. Better to link to a page in ascending order, because new posts get added onto the end. |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 04 Jul 13 - 01:45 PM Well deduced, Jeri; that must be the solution. Jack does not really deserve it, because he is too lazy to tell us what exactly he did. |

Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 04 Jul 13 - 02:22 PM I may have confused things with my first post. I just meant I was linking to an external site. |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Jeri Date: 04 Jul 13 - 02:42 PM What I managed to discover was that the person known as GUEST,Jack the Sailor posted a link in one of those stupid snot-fest threads to another person's post. As snot-fest threads are very popular at Mudcat these days, it got a lot of posts and JtS's post got bumped. |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: GUEST,Jon Date: 04 Jul 13 - 02:51 PM In that case sorry Jeri, I'm still a rare passer through, largely out but do pass by once in a while. I am not out to eg contribute to snot fests. |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Jul 13 - 03:24 PM It you want to make a foolproof link to a particular post, go to that post and right-click on the "printer-friendly" link for that post - and select "copy link address. Then you can go to your message and paste that link, e.g.,
You can also paste that link into our "make a link" blickifier to make all the code you need, if you don't know how to make it yourself. Now, if you want to make an even nicer link, delete _pf from the URL you've copied, thusly:
You could also add target=new inside your link, so it will open in a new tab, thus:
Confused yet? Since we're talking about "stupid snot-fest threads," will you forgive me if I say that this solution is "slicker than snot"? It all boils down to this - use the "printer-friendly" link when you want to link to an individual post. You can add the refinements when you get used to the first method. -Joe- How's that? |
Subject: RE: BS: How do you make a link to a post? From: Jeri Date: 04 Jul 13 - 03:27 PM Jon, you had/have good intentions. I hope what I posted helps people, but I don't want anything to do with that sort of thread if I can help it. |
