Subject: BBC R4 - Izzy Young/The Folklore Center From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 10 Aug 13 - 06:24 AM There was an interesting programme on R4 today about Izzy Young and the Folklore Center (sorry about UK spelling in title!). It's not on the iplayer yet so I can't give a link, but it was broadcast as 10:30 Sat 10 Aug, on BBC R4. (I'll try and remember to put a link up when it becomes available). People in the US, for whom this may be more interesting than to those in the UK, can probably access it via Expat Shield. Mick |

Book of the Week turn's out to be Sounds Like London - 100 Years of Black Music in the Capital. It started yesterday and continues in fifteen minute episodes to Friday. |

Subject: RE: BBC R4 - Izzy Young/The Folklore Cenrtre From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 21 Feb 14 - 03:33 PM thanks. coincidentally I just noticed this while scrolling through the 'Arts and culture' section of iPlayer. So much great stuff on there to listen to! A lot of it still available to listen to from a couple of years back. (Rather at random) I noticed Martin Carthy's documentary about the Critics Group is still available to hear. And also a documentary about Classical music's use of folk melodies that I remember listening to a while back. Erykah Badu's "Black is a Country' documentary about the black arts & music of the 60s civil rights era is up there too, which is great (and worth it just to listen to the pure sexy honey of her voice. but, er, enough about that...) |
Subject: RE: BBC R4 - Izzy Young/The Folklore Cenrtre From: Desert Dancer Date: 21 Feb 14 - 05:33 PM Fortunately, Expat Shield (or similar) is not necessary for the BBC Radio, just the television programs. Thanks for the tip! ~ Becky in Long Beach (USA) |
