Subject: Fylde 2013 From: Sailor Ron Date: 27 Aug 13 - 06:06 AM The 'run up' to Fylde FF started last night with a concert on board the trawler Jacinta in Fleetwood docks, with Spitting on a roast, Earthbound Souls, Scolds Bridle, and the Alen Bell Band. Various evening events 'til Thurs when the festival 'proper' starts with Bernard Wrigley in concert. Hope to meet some 'catters' over the weekend. Weather forcast looks good. |

Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 28 Aug 13 - 02:22 PM I won't have to fight my way through the smoking infants on the steps of the Gasworkers Club this year. I think the venue has ahem, been retired! Aye, it's the bright lights of the North Euston and the New Boston for me and my wardrobe! I think the weather is set fair too. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: Capo da Monty Date: 28 Aug 13 - 05:07 PM Ah Clive.. Your charismatic MC-ing will always brighten up any dreary venue! Looking forward to catching up as always. Regards MB |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,AEOLA Date: 28 Aug 13 - 05:52 PM So long as you wear your Jacket Clive It'll be great!! Can't get down 'till friday but looking forward to another great w/e. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,Myrtle's cook Date: 29 Aug 13 - 04:51 AM Ah, will miss the gas worker's club - something cultishly edgey about it. Certainly a unique venue, 'available for christenings, receptions and funeral wakes' if I remember the poster correctly (or combinations there of)! When I saw it omitted from the draft programme I wondered if it had gone the way of so many working men's clubs. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 29 Aug 13 - 08:19 AM Unique is the right word Myrtle's Cook. I'm sure it's still operating but I guess representations were made about its suitability in recent years. I might just have to check it out as it's not far from the Wetherspoon and I have some vouchers to use. Mind you, the British Legion upstairs hall took some beating, certainly with regard to the backstage facilities! The sign up there said something like "all guns must be checked in on the desk" - I'd like to think that was a spoof as the Wild West decor reflected its use as a C&W venue but I was never too sure!!!! |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: Sooz Date: 02 Sep 13 - 02:18 PM We had a great weekend and were disappointed not to be able to stay for the Survivors session tonight. The caravan site left a lot to be desired and there were quite a few parked along the prom because the space ran out. We had to wait for people to leave before we could get out this morning. Still, that didn't spoil the weekend! |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,henryp Date: 03 Sep 13 - 06:17 AM The North Euston ballroom! You are definitely upwardly mobile, Clive. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 03 Sep 13 - 07:23 AM The N.E. ballroom is a delightful venue, very Jane Austen and Nigel on sound was as ever, a faultless man to work with. Maybe the lighting could use some extra frills and touches but all in all, it's quite majestic. Some exciting performers and the New Penguin English Folk Songs presentation orchestrated by Brian Peters was exemplary - Bella Hardy just gets better and better. Don't you meet some lovely people too at Fylde? |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: Lenny's mum (inactive) Date: 03 Sep 13 - 08:05 AM We were on the second 'overflow' caravan site and had lots of room, not squashed at all. Apparently, there was plenty of room on the camping site also. We had a fabulose weekend as always. Thank you very much all who helped organise the festival. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,henryp Date: 03 Sep 13 - 03:38 PM We couldn't get to the New Penguin show in time. Instead we went to Jim Savile's talk on Cicely Fox Smith, with illustrations in song by Margaret Walters. And very enjoyable it was too. Dougie MacLean was the headliner on Sunday, but still found time to play fiddle in the session in the bar. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,ageing folky Date: 11 Sep 13 - 06:50 PM I agree about the North Euston ballroom, a great venue. Ah the gasworkers club, well it was looking a bit tired and spartan upstairs and the ceiling was giving way in places. R.I.P The New Boston. Anyone else agree that it is way too small and very hot in there, yet gets allocated some good artists. I didn't go in there this year because of the heat. Organisers think about another venue please. The Festival was as good as ever thanks to Alan and his team. I only went on the Saturday but well worth a days ticket. Good to see Mike Harding there, and Clive was as Lively as ever. Dave Jones with his Jokes about his shirt size. and some GREAT MUSIC AND SONG. Long may Fylde continue. |
Subject: RE: Fylde 2013 From: GUEST,henryp Date: 11 Sep 13 - 07:07 PM We'll do it all again on August 29, 30 and 31 2014. |
