Subject: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: GUEST,Ray Date: 15 Sep 13 - 06:21 PM I've not seen it mentioned so it may well have gone unnoticed that the latest incarnation of the Transatlantic Sessions started tonight. Unfortunately it's on BBC2 Scotland so there are many who won't be able to watch it. Unless you live North of the border or have Freesat that is. Highlights included Jerry Douglas' apparently increasing girth, Tim o'Brien's magnificent beard and Andy Irvine's shiny (new I assume) Sobel octave mandolin. |

Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: Will Fly Date: 16 Sep 13 - 04:00 AM Go to the BBC iPlayer on your computer - BBC4 has programme 1 up. I'm just watching as I write this. |

Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: Will Fly Date: 16 Sep 13 - 04:28 AM Good to see Teddy Thompson in action, playing a Lowden - just like Dad. I see what you mean about Jerry Douglas's tum-tum - and Tim O'Brien's looking very ruffianly! Anyway, it was also good to see Russ Barenberg and Michael McGoldrick back in action - two of my favourite musicians. Incidentally, when I'd finished the programme on iPlayer, up popped this on the screen: "Horo Gheallaidh - Sreath 7" from BBC Alba. Worth a listen. |
Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: GUEST,PeterC Date: 16 Sep 13 - 05:18 AM I think it starts a run on BBC4TV (England) on Friday 27th September. The usual massive publicity by the BBC for folk! |

Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: GUEST,henryp Date: 16 Sep 13 - 08:12 AM Looking forward to seeing this in England. Andy Irvine says; I also play a mandola made for me by Stefan about thirty years ago (tuned DAEA). It has recently undergone a re-building programme. Namely, a new "top". Any instrument takes a while to recover from such interference, especially having a whole new sounding board. It has made a pretty quick recovery though and is back at the head of the queue! |
Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: SteveMansfield Date: 16 Sep 13 - 08:12 AM I was going to mention Horo Ghellaidh but Will beat me to it - always interesting (Kan amongst the acts this week). i'm glad they've stopped that silly conceit that the presenter was introducing the acts between working behind the bar though! |
Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: Backwoodsman Date: 16 Sep 13 - 08:35 AM Conceit? Or DEceit? :-) |
Subject: RE: Transatlantic Sessions 6 From: SteveMansfield Date: 16 Sep 13 - 12:15 PM Aly & Phil on this week's Horo Ghellaidh as well. Deceit is a bit harsh for a fictional framing device, especially as absolutely no-one would ever have been deceived by it :) |
