Subject: Lyr Add: I GOT SICK OF YOU SOME TIME AGO
From: kendall
Date: 16 Oct 13 - 04:14 PM

I've had a few requests for this one. Again, I don't know who wrote it, so I can't give credit. Again, I will put an asterisk where I added something.

I GOT SICK OF YOU SOMETIME AGO.

I don't believe I'd cry if you should leave me,
I'll still hold back the tears if you should go.
I'll try not to worry, in fact I won't be sorry,
'Cause I got sick of you sometime ago.
refrain
*Yes I got sick of you sometime ago,
'cause all you ever did was spend my dough.
So pack your stuff and leave, 'cause no one here will grieve,
We all got sick of you sometime ago.

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder,
I believe that's as true as God above;
But, sometimes when you're far away I wonder,
If it's not your very absence that I love.
* refrain

So, lets not stay together for the children,
They'd be too stoned to notice if you go,
Only your old hound dog, "Shep" is going to miss you,
So, take that flea bag with you, we all got sick of you sometime ago.
* refrain

Thank goodness. I thought this was going to be another 'why I'm leaving Mudcat' thread.

Another instant classic. Wow, Skipper, where do you find 'em?   I'd love to do this one too--maybe in the middle of a really sentimental Carter Family set--and I also of course love the Carter Family.

Where can we get the tune? (though it looks like we could make one up).

Thanks,

Ron

And it's your refrain, too---excellent.

Tried googling it;   got--guess what--this thread. Only.

I bet that in this case also, there are others also interested, though they have not come forward yet.

My friend, Bernie Houlahan in Moncton NB sent me this ditty on a tape. All I did was add some to it.

What's the tune Kendall? Part of this, in fact most of it, can be scanned as "Fifteen Years Ago," a small hit from Conway Twitty.

I sang some songs for you not all that long ago
They were ones I used to, and hopefully STILL know
So I'll send you what you ask for, I've a couple of things to find
And it seems there as another that slipped my aged mind

Hey Kendall, I've got Alzheimer's like everybody else and I can't remember a third one either--I think it was just She Thinks I Steal Cars and I Got Sick of You Some Time Ago.   And after all I only sent you a $10 check.

But now that I'm thinking more about it, $5 Fine For Whining is also one we all should learn--in fact that should be Mudcat's theme song.

If I had to choose, I'd have to pick $5 Fine over I Got Sick.

Subject: Lyr Add: SICK OF YOU (Lou Reed)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 30 Oct 13 - 09:47 AM

Would it be considered appropriate to post this here as a sort of tribute? I found the words online and then tidied them up a bit. I listened to verify their accuracy and make a few small corrections.

SICK OF YOU
As recorded by Lou Reed on "New York" (1988)

I was up in the mornin' with the TV blarin', brushed my teeth sittin' watchin' the news.
All the beaches were closed; the ocean was a Red Sea, but there was no one there to part it in two.
There was no fresh salad 'cause there's hypos in the cabbage; Staten Island disappeared at noon,
And they say the Midwest is in great distress and NASA blew up the moon.
The ozone layer has no ozone anymore,
And you're gonna leave me for the guy next door.
I'm sick o' you.
I'm sick o' you.

They arrested the mayor for an illegal favor, sold the Empire State to Japan,
And Oliver North married William Secord and gave birth to a little Teheran,
And the Ayatollah bought a nuclear warship—if he dies, he wants to go out in style—
And there's nothin' to eat that don't carry the stink of some human waste dumped in the Nile,
But one thing is certainly true:
No one here knows what to do,
And I'm sick o' you.
I'm sick o' you.

The radio said there were 400 dead in some small town in Arkansas.
Some whacked-out trucker drove into a nuclear reactor, killed everybody he saw.
Now he's on Morton Downey and he's glowin' and shiny; doctors say this is a medical advance.
They say the bad makes the good and there's somethin' to be learned in every human experience.
Well, I know one thing that really is true:
This here's a zoo and the keeper ain't you,
And I'm sick of it.
I'm sick o' you.

They ordained the Trumps and then he got the mumps; he died bein' treated at Mt. Sinal,
And my best friend Bill died from a poison pill some wired doctor prescribed for stress.
My arms and legs are shrunk; the food all has lumps; they discovered some animal no one's ever seen.
It was an inside trader eating a rubber tire after runnin' over Rudy Giuliani.
They say the President's dead; no one can find his head; it's been missin' now for weeks,
But no one noticed it; he had seemed so fit.
I'm sick of it.
I'm sick o' you.
I'm so sick o' you.
Bye, bye, bye
Bye, bye, bye

Anything you'd like to do is fine with me, Kendall.

But as I said, I think the first song all Mudcatters should learn is "$5 Fine for Whining"--and I would love to learn it.

Hi Kendall,

I sent you the address--with check-several days ago--at least Monday.   This is a bit concerning.    You really haven't gotten anything from me?

I'll send you the address by PM.    But I need to know about the check. I'll send you another if need be--no problem.   But a check floating around doesn't seem to be a good idea.

Ron - check got here today. Kendall's working on the recordings now - the tape he has has too much hiss and didn't record on Audacity. He may have to do a tape of that one.

Hi Kendall,

Got the CD Monday.

It's great--not just the three songs we talked about but also some others--I really like the one about faded roses, for instance.

Haven't had a chance yet to listen carefully--had rehearsal both Monday and Tuesday for a concert this Sunday--we're doing the Verdi Requiem and a piece honoring JFK.

Also I'm Jan's unpaid childcare assistant.   And trying to keep my siblings from making disastrous changes in my mother's life. Both of those approach being fulltime jobs.

But I will get listen more carefully as soon as I can.

Thanks so much.

Ron

We just figured out how to make a CD out of a cassette tape, and I could have edited that CD I sent down to the three songs you want, but, glad you like what you got.
