Subject: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Oct 13 - 06:56 PM Sometimes I come across something on YouTube I want to share with Mudcatters. It might be a song or a piece of music, it might be something to do with a topic of discussion, it might just be something interesting or amusing or whatever. That's easy enough using a computer, just lift the URL from the address bar. But when using the ipad a problem arises. When you open up YouTube there's no address bar visible. Has anyone come up with a way of getting round this? |
Subject: RE: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: Big Mick Date: 16 Oct 13 - 09:37 PM Kevin, at the bottom of the page you will see a plus sign and what appears to be a triangle with dots at each of its corners and one side missing. Touch the triangle and it will give you options, one of which is to copy the link to that video. Just hit that and it will copy to your clipboard. |
Subject: RE: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: GUEST,Phil E Date: 17 Oct 13 - 05:01 AM I'm trying this now (very annoying that you can't leave a video playing in a background tab). Can't see a plus sign, just description and comments. But if I tap the video window to pause it, four icons come up; the rightmost, a kind of blobby sideways V, offers various "share" options including email. I've copied the URL out of the email (then selected 'Cancel' and 'Delete draft') and here it is: http://.youtube.com/watch?v=FrhuBNHnfgA&sns=em Blickified: Soldiers Three I've got to admit, that was neither quick nor straightforward! It can be done, though. |
Subject: RE: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: GUEST,Phil E Date: 17 Oct 13 - 05:06 AM It helps if you don't screw up the link itself. All right. Here it is, again, and it's called Soldiers Three |
Subject: RE: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: Phil Edwards Date: 17 Oct 13 - 05:14 AM Back on a proper keyboard - phew! Just realised that Mick and I were referring to the same icon - "what appears to be a triangle with dots at each of its corners and one side missing" vs "a kind of blobby sideways V". This one, in fact. |
Subject: RE: Tech: YouTube links with iPad From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Oct 13 - 06:11 AM That sounds what I was after. Let's see if it works for me. Here is a clip from a film I saw this week - Sunshine on Leith And it works ! Thanks. The Mudcat always comes through. Great little film, see it if you can. They don't make it too easy finding out stuff like that, do they? The term is "intuitive", I suppose. Any time I hear it my heart sinks. |
