I don't know if anyone monitors this but I heard the tune in a film from 1935. A group sang "open up those pearly gates for me." So there you have it.

I remember it well.
"There's a home around the corner, home around the corner, home around the corner for me..
Ther'll be no more walking highways, no more passing byways, there's a home around the corner for meee!

I can't seem to find a copy of the original Looney Tunes celluloid either.

I have a vague recollection of not only the cartoon, but a drama during which the character -- down and out -- walks along, with "Home Around the Corner" as background music.

Thanks for the hint about gospel/spiritual; I continue to have no luck searching.

I remember that cartoon from seeing it on TV in the 1950s.

Here's a description of it from Doing Their Bit: Wartime American Animated Short Films, 1939-1945 by Michael S. Shull & David E. Wilt (McFarland, 1987), page 120:
An Itch in Time (WB- 11/20/43) Producer: Leon Schlesinger Director: Robert Clampett Script: Warren Foster [?] Animators: Robert McKimson[?] Music: Carl W. Stalling

A hillbilly flea attacks Elmer Fudd's dog. Elmer warns the dog that a bath is imminent if the scratching persists, but the dog can finally take the flea's attacks in silence no longer and starts to scratch. Elmer heads him towards the bathtub, but at the finale the flea carries both Elmer and the dog off on a platter reading "Blue Plate Special – No Points," and singing "There'll be no more Meatless Tuesdays for me." Memorable cartoon with many rationing references: "Flea Administration Ration Book," etc. At one point the flea avoids the dog's efforts to dislodge him by getting inside a "Hair Raid Shelter." Elmer's cat spies the flea carrying Elmer and the dog away and says, "Now I've seen everything," and shoots himself! ... The flea character, singing the same song (with the words changed to "There's a Home Around the Corner"), shows up in A Horsefly Fleas, directed by Robert McKimson in 1948.
I think the implication here is not that "There's a Home Around the Corner" is the original title of the song (or tune) but that it is another adaptation or parody of the same unnamed original.

The tune sounds familiar, but I can't identify it. I think it may be a gospel song or spiritual.

I've searched for the lyrics and tune to "There's a Home Around the Corner," a 1930's dustbowl song.

The closest I've been able to find is this parody, "Food Around the Corner," from a 1940's cartoon. .
