Inter City Blues (Terry Docherty after Leon Redbone)

Any time you choose just kick off your shoes
Buy yourself a one way ticket to the blues
Resign yourself to fate , you know that train's always late

Forget about the garbage on the carriage floor
Ignore the vomit sticking to the lavatory door
Rely on us to fail , Good Old British Rail

The way we treat the customers is a treat
Twenty seven passengers for every seat
And have you seen the menu , its really great
Fifty kinds of Salmonella on a plate

And the prices in the buffet will make you swear
It doesnt cost a fortune , but we're getting there
Coffee's very nice at ninety pence a slice

And it will come as no surprise
We're really going to get you when we privatise
Find a toilet roll and win a pize

No investment , no repairs , no more safety codes
Derailments may be commonplace
But we'll keep death off the roads

So take you tranquilisers or just get pissed
Either way you end up on the undertakers list
Slacken off your tie , kiss your arse good bye
Abide with me 'cos we're coming in to Clapham
Relax with those mean old intercity blues
Relax with those mean old intercity blues

The original 'Relax' by Leon Redbone was used as the background music for Britih Rail T V commercials in the run up to privatisation , and
this rewrite came about when Terry Docherty had a VERY delayed train journey at that time - He got off the train with most of this in his head !

see the So Relax

thread for my chords
