Is it recordings of Louise Holmes you seek, or a list of songs, links to lyrics? It would help us assist with your inquiry if you could tell us what you need, please.

Kennedy recorded The Little Gypsy Girl when he was working for the BBC and it was given the BBC catalogue number 18691. He then released this on his Folktrax label on FTX-031 - THE ROVING JOURNEYMAN

The Song that Dan sung was The Bonny Bunch of Roses

Without getting into the long-running discussion/dispute about Peter Kennedy's entitlement to release nearly all of the material on Folktrax, I think that it is fair to say that since the death of Peter & Beryl Kennedy that Folktrax is in abeyance and that the website at http://www.folktrax-archive.org/ is no more than an archive record of what they did release.
Only around 10% (150 hours of approx. 1500) of the Kennedy archive is available to anyine from the British Library (http://sounds.bl.uk/World-and-traditional-music/Peter-Kennedy-Collection ) but there is no Louise Holmes items there. Whether this means that they were only given this tenth or whether this is only what has been catalogued so far, I would not be able to say.
There have been plans for much of it to be released on Topic (for the items with the potentially widest appeal and Musical Traditions - but not a lot has been released so far. It is a very expensive process and the market is fairly limited.

Joe, re the link with Sproafly dated 2013. I am a relative of Louise (thro marriage) and we have an original vynal copy of the song although we have never played it as we don't have the equipment. If this is still of interest please get in touch. Regards John Strong

Tried the link but was unable to get in, but I am happy for you to post for me , I have two vinyl recordings the first one being library number 18690 Front Side, The Holy Well Sung by Mrs C. Smith Tarrington, Herefordshire. 14/10/52. Back Side, The Bonny Bunch of Roses and My Boy Billy. Sung by Mrs Louise Holmes Dinedor Herefordshire
BBC Collection (P. Kennedy).

Library Number 18691 Front side The Gypsy's Daughter (the gipsy's wedding day) sung by Mrs Holmes etc etc
Back side The Shepherds Daughter (knight and the shepherds daughter) sung by Mrs Holmes etc etc also dated 14/10/52. ( P. Kennedy ) Any information would be of great interest. Regards John

from Joe: the Folktrax Archive (above) identifies #18690 as RPL 18690-1. I take it RPL is the label - what does RPL stand for?
-Joe-

This is the full entry on Loise Hommes from the BBD catalogue

"HOLMES , Mrs. Louise
Singer. Dinedor, Herefordshire. 14.10.52
Mrs. Holmes, aged 70, keeps a tea garden on a hill above Hereford, Youngest in a family of ten. Always had an interest in singing and used to go to the Local fairs and buy ballad sheets from the ballad mongers. In this way she had at one time a large repertoire of songs. Most of these were learnt from the street vendors' ballad sheets, but a number were learnt from her mother and sister-in-law. The four songs recorded were from the family.
Section I.
Bonny bunch of roses (5): 18690; Gipsy girl (1); Knight and the shepherd's daughter: 18691; My boy Billy (l): 18690"

It is interesting to note From the Folktrax lists that there were other songs collected from her by Kennedy on the same date that were not submitted to the BBC.
A friend of ours, the son of one of Kennedy's well known singers, has been trying to find out why a number of songs his father and his uncles sang for Kennedy never made it to the BBC.
If John Strong would like to hear the recordings, please contact me - I will be happy to help
Jim Carroll

Hello Jim thanks for the offer. I would really like to hear the tracks. Would you know where the recordings would have taken place? Do you know if Louise performed in public. Regards
