Am I the only person who is getting completely PXXXED off with having to book these ruddy festival dates so far in advance you need a blood line to Nostradamus, a book of astrology and a life long membership of the golden dawn to go to one?

Folk and festival are MEANT TO BE SPONTANEOUS out pouring of emotion and human spirit not a blandly channelled and corporate procession of the mediocre and tedious! Stuff your damn festival where the sun don't shine (Derbyshire in the summertime a good place to start)

Sorry Eric, could not disagree more.

Moira is one of the best (if not the best) of the small folk festivals around and has, blessedly, decided to stay small. Lots of stuff happens spontaneously there and it has always been a fantastic weekend. If some of us like to ensure we don't miss out by booking early, so what? I, for one, would buy my ticket for the 2015 festival at the 2014 one if that were possible.

If you object to booking early, you can always try booking late, but be prepared for disappointment!

I shall be there all being well with assorted family and friends - Around 10 of us this time! Daughters went to see Blackbeard's Tea Party on Saturday as they are huge fans so I think they will be there :-)

GUEST,Eris Eric, I can guarantee you won't find the 'mediocre and tedious' at Moira Furnace!

Looking forward to it, won't be with the Hounds, but doing a spot of MC'ing this time :)

""Folk and festival are MEANT TO BE SPONTANEOUS out pouring of emotion and human spirit not a blandly channelled and corporate procession of the mediocre and tedious!""

If that is what you are expecting to get, I can't see why early booking, late booking, or indeed booking at all, would be of any interest to you.

It's certainly not what I got at Moira 2012 and I also was welcomed at four Leicestershire folk clubs as well, during the week I stayed in the locality.

Incidentally, I booked in March for that one.

Don T.

Don't think there is anything bland, mediocre, tedious or anything else dodgy about Moira Furnace FF. If you have ever had anything to do with organising this sort of event you will know that you need a pretty good up-front idea of what the take-up is likely to be unless you have an excess of your own resources you can afford to lose! Early bird tickets are a good way of predicting what the final take-up might be (nothing is ever guaranteed)and regular supporters get a bit of a loyalty bonus by booking early, though this option is open to everyone who wants to take advantage of it. The fact that this year they have Blackbeard's Tea Party + Lucy Ward + the Sunday evening special event means the uptake (early booking or late) is going to be good anyway so getting in early could be a good move, bearing in mind that the festival has sold out in the past. We have supported MFFF both as performers, stewards and committee members ever since the start and will continue to support it as long as it goes on. Long live Moira!

Having greatly enjoyed the past few years of Moira FFF, I'm looking forward to next year's event too (and so far it's the only bright spot in an otherwise dismal and curiously empty calendar for 2014).

Workshops for Moira Furnace will hopefully include 2 Meet the Artist spots (Sunjay Brayne and Will Morgan, 2 ukulele workshops (beginners and improvers), introduction to claw hammer banjo, two song writing sessions, two completely different song workshops, the unmissable story walk, and a big skiffle session on Sunday morning. Hopefully we will have tai-chi again in the mornings to wake everyone up. Could do with just one more instrumental workshop from a performer for Saturday. Looks like being another good one.

Sorry to hear that Kitty & Derek and Chris King won't be joining us!!

I hear that Graham Collins is starting a concert at 2.30pm on Friday so I hope that some Folks will get there early to support him.

We won't get along till Friday tea-time at least, possibly later if traffic is awful. Hopefully we will get there in time to see Two Coats Colder!!

I'll be sharing some songs in the Outbar sage on Saturday at 8.10 and at 12.00 on Sunday and it would be lovely to see some friendly faces & hear your harmonies there!

Don't forget the Mudgather in the Railway on Saturday from 4-6pm, bring chocolate!!

Keeping fingers crossed for good weather!

It certainly was another fantastic Moira, I think that they've got the recipe pretty much nailed for this lovely venue & great Festival. Huge thanks to Colin, Olga & all the volunteers, stewards & artists for making it such a fabulous weekend!

Thanks too for allowing me to share some songs again, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge & I have to say that 'Eddy The Sound' is a Master of his Art!! Please pass on my thanks to him!

We had a lovely MudGather at the Railway once again (Diane is a great Landlady), just enough time to get around twice for those who were there at the start. So, here's the Register:

MGAS - I can only take credit for co-ordinating the workshops and doing a bit of stewarding these days. The real heroes are the committee who start work on next year almost as soon as the festival is over and everyone who spends so much time over the weekend making sure everything is going well. The amount of work to make sure the campsite works, the water works, making sure we aren't infringing any H&S rules etc, is quite amazing. Well done all of you.

Brilliant weekend all round, and a pleasure for me to MC for some wonderful people :)

I can report that MGAS was in fine voice and gave us an excellent set on the Outbar stage. (at risk of making you blush Hils, you might like to know that one of my fellow Bounty Hounds described your set as 'utterly captivating')

Too many other high spots to mention, and a huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it all possible.

If you'll forgive me, two plugs coming up, we're mounting a Suffolk takeover of Moira next year, with Matt Cudby and Erin Brown, The Broadside Boys, Sound Tradition and The Bounty Hounds all on the bill, with The Hounds headlining Friday night.

Second plug, if you're wondering what to do when the festival season is over, come along to The Bury St Edmunds OXJAM Folk Weekend where you'll find Hils sharing more songs, and running a Saturday afternoon singaround, I'm also delighted that at last we've got Chris King (seaking) coming back, and many other great acts including Winter Wilson and John Richards, and a first run out for the new look Bounty Hounds with master squeezer Alex Goldsmith now in the band :) We'd love to see you there.

Bounty Hound John
