Subject: Michael Gove Plays the Ukelele
From: Acorn4
Date: 18 Nov 13 - 12:14 PM

One of the strange facts to emerge from the reading of a website:- "Everything you never wanted to know about Michael Gove", is that he plays the ukelele:-

I thought this was too good an opportunity not to pass
lyrical comment on. Whilst putting the video up on YouTube I noticed another gentleman had had similar, presumably reasonably simultaneous thoughts, so I have included both songs:-

Michael Gove Plays the Ukelele - 1

Michael Gove Plays the Ukelele - 2

Probably only one for teachers in the UK this - for the benefit of US and others he's our education minister at the moment.

He won't be our education minister after May 2015.

From the Sunday Times in May 2013

"HE WILL not be the first politician intent on calling the tune. Michael Gove, the education secretary, is to have lessons in playing the ukulele to take his mind off the pressures of his high-profile cabinet job.
Gove's wife, Sarah Vine, a journalist on The Times, has signed him up for a course to learn how to play the guitar-like instrument at the Idler Academy near the family home in west London.
She gave Gove a ukulele as a birthday present last year, but he did not know how to play it and is understood to have disturbed the peace at home with his untrained twanging.
"The genesis of this is that the Gove family all love Mumford & Sons," said a friend.

The poor old Mumfords don't have much going for them, do they?

Ah, but a ukelele isn't dangerous when put in a position of power. Is it true that Ian Duncan-Smith is struggling with lessons on the triangle? George Osborne failing to master the kazoo? And aren't the Scots about to give David Cameron a set of bagpipes even though you only get one note when you play them out of your a**e? (Apologies if this is getting a bit off-thread).

Yet another very good reason to despise Mumford and Sons right there ...

Various artists have refused permission for right-wing bigots to use or even listen to their songs, the Mumfords would go up enormously in my estimation if they did the same thing.

Bet they won't though, because that would cause far too much embarrassment next time they all met up at a Chipping Norton fondue party or. A Bullingdon Club reunion dinner dance.

By the way he was never our education minister in Scotland.

Didn't somebody once say that the definition of a gentleman was somebody who could play the ukelele, but didn't. Or am I thinking of some other instrument.

Odd that Grove should be a "musician" when he has cut funding to music teaching in our schools.

"I'm the ukelele man, come and listen if you can,
The children hate to hear me play
They tell me to just go away
'cos I change their lessons every day
I'm the ukelele man"

(With apologies to George Formby!)

Richard,
If that's your view, then It will give me great pleasure to annoy both of you with several of my nasty shrill little things, especially the banjo variant.

A ukulele is the present day equivalent of the dreaded kazoo.
One imagines that the Gove association will cause sales of the instrument to plummet (and perhaps see off Mumpford & Co as well).

I am surpirsed he has picked such a relatively contemporary instrument - he seems intent on sending the education system back several hundered years.

Poor, poor Uke - guilty by association.

He keeps dropping the fact that he's from Aberdeen, well, as an Aberdonian born and bred, I can find no trace of an Aberdeen accent anywhere in his speech. He must have loved the place so much that he scrubbed every last trace of it from his voice. Pillock!!
