Dobcross Folk Club started well after the launch last summer (see Folk Club Reopening … After 42 Years!)

Unfortunately, we couldn't sustain it and have had to close. Only nine people there last night, even though we had an excellent guest in Philip Cockerham who did a great night. It is a question of income / outgoings economics. We simply couldn't afford to run the club on the numbers turning up.

So the club is no more.

Thanks to all the singers, musicians and audience who made the sessions we had so enjoyable. We do hope to see you again at other clubs when we can.

Best wishes

Paul and Kath Reade

Sad news.

I've amended the local web-hub
www.pyramidfolk.co.uk accordingly.

Any mileage in running it predominantly as a singers club - then putting on a guest from time to time?

Just a thought.

JJ

very difficult running a folk club on the same night as the cross keys only a mile or so away seems to be a trend in Saddleworth of accoustic nights pitching on sundays and wednesdays.there are other nights

Guest clubs need an audience! and to attract an audience every week takes some doing nowadays

Runninga weekly singers and musicians club is similarly problematic

Try a monthly guest night sometime and see what happens maybe?

Hi Paul

Sorry to hear the news.

I went through this some years ago. I tried many things but in the end it just wasn't viable.

I think you had no real alternative.

Sad though....

cheers

Mike
