When the wildest music act I can remember coming out of that country is Justin Bieber?

Doesn't say anything about Canada; maybe says something about the States, though. The 'wild' acts stay in Canada.

The Tragically Hip? = U2 on steroids. There's a lot of good tunes coming along in Canada but that little snot-nosed piece of trash is all marketing.

Is The Hip the "wild" you speak of? What is Wild? ( = "What is Folk?"?)

I have heard of Nickleback... too much.

Now, really wild? Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers. I dare say Beeper would crap himself goin up Gambo Pond on a sled with them lads.

To put things in perspective. While Keith Richards was peeing on gas stations and consuming copious quantities of drugs, While Jagger and Bowie were pushing sexual boundries, while Zepplin and Jim Morrison were consuming groupies like tic tacs, While the Beatles were expanding our minds and bragging about being bigger than Jesus, Randy Bachman was a practicing Mormon eschewing coffee.

Stephen Page got kicked out of the band for one little drug bust with two little hookers, quite ironic considering the name of the band!

Say what you want about the music, but Bieber's lifestyle is Rock & Roll.

He seems like he is trying to repeat every mistake that every self-destructive music idol has ever made by the time he is 21.

There's a list as long as your arm of low talent, or no talent "celebrities" whose existence the media makes it difficult to ignore. Tiresome.

Nothing really new with entertainers (especially the young ones) doing whatever they do for kicks or many other personal reasons - and the media making a big deal of unfortunate personal situations. As with others, it has no reflection on any nation of which they happen to be a citizen. It probably reflects more on the industry, the media and the folks who feed or dwell on the entertainement news story.

His career is over. (unless he decides to go emo, ska, or rap)
The little child has burned yet another bridge.

It is doubtful he will ever return to Florida. A $2,500 bail is mighty cheap.

It is established he will never return to any Arabian hospitality. He caused his Muslem sponsors great embarrassments in 2013, trying to obtain alcohol, delaying his show for two hours on a school night and "surfing" on the roof of a moving SUV. Reviews were critical of
lip synching and stage production and lethargy. The Gulf News commented "...
his visit to Dubai showed him to be nothing more than a disrespectful and petulant popster with scant regard for his fans or, indeed, the laws and norms of the UAE."

In Sweden drugs are found on his tour bus.

In Munich, Germany he shows up with an illegal, 20 week-old monkey.

In Rio de Janeiro, the kid was charged with tagging the wall of an abandoned hotel, photographed leaving a notorious brothel and thrown out of another hotel.

Petulant pouting about the Grammys.

Terrifying his own neighborhood with fast cars, vandalism and and spitting in faces.

Lying about meeting the president of Mexico.

In the UK his show is delayed and delayed and delayed some more.

An insulting spoof is found here:
washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/01/23/justin-bieber-rampage-may-have-al-qaeda-links-terrorism-analysts-warn/

A one day old petition for deportation is here:

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/deport-justin-bieber-and-revoke-his-green-card/ST1yqHJL

Sincetely,
Gargoyle

Revoke his "green card," send him back to Canada. He has made the radar screen of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.   Like any well squeezed fruit there is nothing left for his handlers to profit...like a picture from life's other side all that remains is pith and pulp.

If Justin Bieber is the "wildest" Canadian act you can think of, Jack, your criteria are off-kilter. He's not wild; he's just ill-disciplined, like a dog that craps on the kitchen floor and jumps up on visitors.

And why do you look for "wildness" in musicians in the first place?

The Stones were wild. Michael Jackson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, The Beatles, Muddy Waters, Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis, Johnny Cash The Who etc etc. With Canadians its all about just making good music and giving their fans their money's worth when they come to a show. I'm not saying its good or bad. I just find it amusing that a Skinny young man, in that wonderful limbo between the Canadian and US drinking ages is the first Canadian to commit to that path. I also find it amusing that the Mayor of Toronto is in many ways, wilder.

More smoke and mirrors, JtS. Just like Chopra saying that seniors are telling him they are looking forward to a healthier lifestyle because they are gonna get more exercise going to a mailbox bank in a snow and ice storm rather than opening thier door and checking their mailbox without wearing a parka and snowshoes and using a walker.

Piss on the Beeb and all the other cheap and transparent diversions. Harper just gave Jordan $100M in "aid" and got his pic on the front page with his hands on the Wailing Wall whilst wearing a Kippah. Take that you crabby old Canucks who think you need door to door mail delivery. I mean, WTF did youse ever do for Canada and, more importantly, Harper's bank account? Matter of fact, youse all should be taught to weld pipe or yer gonna die from a train derailment ya greedy pricks! Yas even want clean water ta drink. Now, ya can buy clean water at yer Sobeys but how are ya gonna make tea without the tar sands or natgas? Frack the elderly. WTF is THEIR problem?

Btw, taste in music aside, the young fella amassed quite a following, bank accountand media interest over a short few years. N
maybe tasting the wild side, like myley cyrus , signals a new marketing approach for him - as he outgrows his tweenie fan base and seeks another?

In Canada we have musicians, terrific musicians. We can hear terrific live music almost any day of the week, if we choose, and no matter where we live. They may never make the big news, but many of them are far better than those who do.

i would not walk across the street to hear most of those who make the big news, but I have driven long distances to hear a good Canadian musician.

Maybe what it says about Canada: we quietly support our own, without a bunch of hoopla?

The Tragically Hip have toured the U.S. and drawn huge, enthusiastic crowds, despite the fact that they get practically no radio play on U.S. rock stations.

Lots of fantastic folk-type singers in Canada!!

Don... said before on other threads. He is one talented geetar man. The whole band is pure talent. Now, I have heard some people criticize particular songs as being "oddly dark", and I ask them if they think Alfred Hitchcock deserves the same comment when ALL of his work was "dark"... Poe? Shakespeare? The typical response is less than intelligent and that is being complimentary.

If anyone doesn't know The Hip or understand my comments, here is The Hip in concert well before hurricane Katrina... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZwm_OKh6bw

Just an amazing group of musicians. Not folk but I don't limit myself to categories. I like it all. I just love music and I turn the channel if I don't care for what's playing.

So do the men and women of the CAF that are committing suicide because he doesn't think they are worth shit. Harper wants sick people to pay $28k a year for ganja they can grow at home for free. Refugees? Yeah. But if he then says Canucks are not worth his charity... veterans elderly, infirm... fuck him and his media spin doctors.

Ashley MacIsaac is a bad boy. But he doesn't represent anything like the fame of the other artists I mentioned. Until Bieber, pretty much all of the Canadian superstars were pretty prudent, businesslike and careful with their reputations. From Guy Lombardo to Pickford to Buble and Robin Thicke. My God! Thicke is performing with Chicago at the Grammys and they had no street cred when they were superstars, let alone now.

I really do find it amusing how much bad behavior Bieber has crammed into the past couple of years. He really seems to be trying to outdo them all. From here he can go a couple of ways, retire and live of royalties as Shania did, keep himself in the news and crank out albums and tours for 50 years like the stones, or go the way of Janis, and Jimi and Jim.

Time will tell.

Craig Ferguson's humor is silly but his perspective is often quite sharp.
