This week just ended would have seen the 70th birthday of the gifted singer Tina Lawton who sadly died in a plane crash in Kenya at Christmas 1968 aged just 24. I was intrigued to learn from the following article that she spent time in Scotland, sang at Kelvin Hall and appeared on Scottish TV. Wonder if anyone has any memories of these ?

Several sound clips on YouTube, also a video clip here:

blickies from Treacle Bolly's post

Tina Lawton biography from 'Simply Australia'

Tina Lawton singing 'Convict maid'

and more!

Tina Lawton : Plains Of Emu (1967) - Youtube

Tina Lawton & Marian Henderson - The Springtime It Brings On the shearing

Tina Lawton Bandstand Interview - youtube

Tina Lawton - Every Night when the Sun goes Down - youtube Audio recording with TV screen photos from 1963-65 original Quad Videotape and digital fill-in photos

Tina Lawton - The Lowlands of Holland - youtube

Tina Lawton - Hard is the Fortune of all Womankind - Youtube

Tina Lawton - The Bird's Courting Song - Youtube

Tina Lawton & Roger Cardwell- That Old Ship of Zion - Youtube

The only time I've heard her voice is on a CD made from a cassette labelled LP - Australian Folk Festival - Various Artists where she sings 2 songs, 'I know where I'm going' & "Buttermilk Hill' so I went thru every post on Youtube. She had a beautiful voice.

I started High School in 1964 & Dad finally got a TV in 1966 so I probably never saw her on TV (if her shows came to Sydney) - maybe I heard her on the radio, but tonight I had a great time listening to her beautiful voice.

Enjoyed the link to Tin Lawton's biography. I've hear two of her albums. Her voice was so sweet. I did not know she recorded a third album until I read the biography. Her albums 'Tina Lawton' and 'Fair and Tender' can be found at the Australian folk blog (link below) I have also seen the entire TV program that some of the YouTube are taken from. It may also be linked at that site, but I do not remember for certain

Thanks for that Treacle Brolly.
So many memories came flooding back.
I now live in Adelaide, but was raised in Victor Harbor, where She was noticed by Roger Cardwell/Country & Western Hour. The Catacombes - a popular after hours night spot well frequented.
If I live to 1st June I will be 70.
We were married the month before She tragically died. Again if I live till then it will be 46 years of wedded something or other.
We were fortunate for those short years to see/hear Her quite regularly.

from Paul the Stockman's blog - Audio from ABC TV "Tina Lawton Interludes" 1965

In 1965, the ABC Adelaide produced a number of 10 minute fillers entitled "The Tina Lawton Interludes" which were broadcast nationally on ABC TV in popular time slots.

The ABC provided Tina with audio of the tracks featured in these Interludes and she provided copies to a limited number of friends including Michael's family. Michael has provided a rip of the cassette in his possession. Obviously the quality is what should be expected of 1965 TV audio and cassette tape technology (just three years old) but, with a little cleaning, the tracks have come up a good listening standard.

Now, if only some kind soul with ABC access could locate the original TV films?? Anyone? What a prize that would be.

You will notice that some of these tracks feature on her three albums previously posted. The ones I checked are different performances.

Tracklist
01 - The Lowlands of Holland
02 - Bonny Ship The Diamond
03 - The Water is wide
04 - Raggle Taggle Gypsies
05 - Strawberry Fair
06 - Barbara Allen
07 - The Tailor and the Mouse
08 - Moreton Bay
09 - My last Farewell to Stirling
10 - Derby Ram
11 - What have They done to the Rain
12 - When I was young
13 - The whispering poplar tree (My guess as to the title)
14 - Trotting to the Fair
15 - She moved through the Fair
16 - Spanish Lady
17 - Cuckoo Song
18 - Welsh Lament
19 - Blacksmith Song
20 - Early one morning
21 - Mr McQuire (usually McGuire but this title appeared on here first LP)
22 - Spinning Wheel
23 - Molly Malone

Can anyone provide any details about the plane crash that took the life of Tina Lawton? Was it a small private plane or larger commercial plane and what were the circumstances that caused this plane to crash? Were there any survivors? Was she on her way to or from a gig at the time?
Pilot error? Weather related? Malfunction with the plane?
