Subject: RE: Obit: Jesse Winchester (1944 - 2014) From: GUEST,Clive Pownceby Date: 07 Apr 14 - 09:57 AM This news is hard to take in. Gentle spirits such as his are rare things indeed but thank you Jesse, for all the music over all the years. "Be Good" he wrote in my autograph book when I saw him on, I think his only UK tour in Manchester, December 1986. It's up there now, framed on my study wall. The world just got more cloudy today. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Jesse Winchester (1944 - 2014) From: Dorothy Parshall Date: 07 Apr 14 - 10:51 AM I have no doubt he was at peace. That is who he was - and shall remain in my heart. But I am weepy sad, full of sorrow at my loss. Never again will we get to see him on stage - LIVE! and wonderful! So glad for the memory of last winter's performance in Montreal. Oh my! |

Subject: In Hospice: Jesse Winchester From: Jeri Date: 07 Apr 14 - 11:50 AM Mike, if you're reading, sometimes having a chance to say "goodbye" before someone's on the other side of a closed door is a good thing, but I'll take "Obit" out of the thread title. |

Subject: RE: OBIT: Jesse Winchester From: Larry The Radio Guy Date: 11 Apr 14 - 08:43 PM A friend of mine just sent me this email with a Jesse Winchester story I remember---when he played the Frostbite Music Festival (of which I was artistic director at the time) in the early 1980's. "this is a story I remember, maybe not quite accurately, from-1982? Jesse Winchester had come up to Whitehorse, I think to play at Frostbite? He was very kind to T (daughter), and she still has a note he wrote to her from back then, when she was 8. I remember chauffeuring him around Whitehorse. At the end of the visit, either you or I said to him that it was too bad he didn't get a chance to see more of the Yukon, maybe go down to Carcross or something. He replied, "it's ok, really. You know, I hate scenery." His songs are picturesque....but more at a visceral level than at a visually descriptive level. |
