Subject: RE: Liams Brother in UK From: Mark Roffe Date: 22 Nov 99 - 02:16 AM I heard Dan and Bob at Joe Offer's house concert about a month ago. Bought the "Irish Ballads And Songs Of The Sea" CD and like it very much. |
Subject: RE: Liams Brother in UK From: Liam's Brother Date: 24 Nov 99 - 03:39 PM I crawled in back under the door last night after a fine fortnight singing around England. We put 1500 miles on the car in 7 days of driving... most of it at 80MPH. All of the folk clubs in which we sang are well established... ancient almost. One is just about to celebrate it's 40th anniversary! Bob Conroy and I sang Irish-American and sea songs and the audiences seemed to appreciate hearing a different repetoire. Bob sang Art Thieme's "Pokegema Bear" at a couple of the gigs and and it went over very well. It is, of course, a great song. Thanks again, Art, for giving it to the rest of us. Bob had spent only a few nights in London before so getting out into the countryside was an eye opener for him. As were some of those particularly English curiosities, for example: how can the world's hottest radiator be situated only 2 inches from the world's coldest toilet seat? Bob understands that the temperature can drop 40F when walking from a house to the outside. This was the first time he has encountered the same temperature drop just by walking from one room to another INSIDE a house! Hats off to Gareth and Bill who drove about 120 miles through gigantic hail storms, rain and snow to spend time with us in Marske-on-sea. We very much appreciated their company. We hope to drop by The Jug and return the favor when we return to England next year. Bob and I are headed out to Ireland in March (as we do each year). Bob is a featured performer at the Inishowen Seminar, our all-time favorite venue. Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson are the headliners for 2000. All the best, Dan Milner |
