Thanks for letting us know Mal. Its a great pity you can't be with us - (we were all wondering what unusual raffle prize(s) Molly may have brought along!!)
Yeh, Jim is a REAL talent and we're looking forward to a wonderful evening of song and banter. Look after yourselves & hope to see you before too long.

Tom

Only good Dick?

Unfortunately the Whitby entourage have a previous engagement so will not be there.

If you are not aware of Jim then you have been missing a real talent for a lot years.

Get yourselves there, the worst thing that could happen is that you would enjoy it.

Apart from his very original and excellent style of singing, it's 50 years since Jim, with others (not me) started the Beacon folk club in South Shields, which became the Marsden club soon after.
First guest was Cyril Tawney, who returned for the 25th anniversary, I remember his initial commemt that it was good to be back in the Jimnasium- reason being that other residents included Jim, me, Jim Irvine and the late Jim Boyles.
We were privileged to hear and meet some of the greats of traditional music at that time such as Maggie Barry, Paddy Tunney, Davy Stewart, Willie Scott & Joe Heaney- how's that for a start!
A lot of this was due to Jim's booking policy and all I can say is Thanks Jim- wish I could be there....

Great to hear that Jim is still up for doing an occasional FC performance. I've had the pleasure of hearing him on several occasions and he never fails to inspire. Your right he is a 'hidden' gem an I'll definitely be coming along.

Obviously, we're all very excited about Jim coming back to the Welly 'cause our Mike beat me, by a matter of minutes, to creating a Thread for it - anyway, at least no one can say we're keeping it to ourselves!

Hi All,

Our next upcoming Guest at The Welly Folk Club is the closely kept North East Singing Sensation that is Jim Sharp!!

A great, great singer, a unique guitar player, a huge influence on many a singer, particularly from our glorious region, but also far and wide and a man for whom the word, "unassuming" was created!

And it's two days before my birthday too!!!

If you can make it you should, he really is special!

The Welly Folk Club meets, every Thursday:

The Wellington Inn,
Wolviston Village
Billingham
County Durham
TS22 5JY
