I apologise if this has already been addressed on Mudcat, but panic has set in! In the very act of viewing my Inbox, the first five emails suddenly vanished before my very eyes. In their place appeared one of Yahoo's new 'sponsored' and non-removable email ads. I don't mind these sponsored ads, but I do object if my incoming letters are going to be whisked away before I can even open them. What's going on?

Can I just piggyback this thread to say how shite and user unfriendly BTinternet email has become
since the recent switch to a new format.

Eliza, did you try and delete the sponsored message? If you do that it will delete the real message at the top of the inbox.

The missing messages will be in the Trash folder for however long you have set it to keep them.

I like gmx. BTinternet premium email is a pain in the proverbial.

Peter, unfortunately, my Trash department is set to bin things straight away. And I didn't try at all to remove the sponsored message, as I realise that you can't get rid of them. I wasn't touching any of my laptop's keys at the time, so it was a bit disconcerting to see the emails vanish. Oh dear, sometimes I think I'm getting too old for all this technology.
Thank you to all who responded. Hope it doesn't keep happening!

We're all too old for bad technology. Yahoo mail has been spoken of before on Mudcat. Someone always says, "It works just fine for me" which doesn't really help. Yahoo seems not to care. Switch email. If you want a free service, gmail is good. (They don't care either, but unless the user does something really silly like open spam, it doesn't give the problems Yahoo does.) imo.

GMX is free and I suspect has less spyware in it than gmail

You might also consider non web-based email; Thunderbird is free.

Some very helpful suggestions, thank you all. It's worrying isn't it when one can't access communications which might be v. important.

deleted folder is the best suggestion, drag and drop back into InBox and put up with the advert - I guess. I don't get that with my Yahoo subscriptions, but they are probably not the same kind. eg Tradsong Forum.

BTinternet is not just a pian, but is unworkable.
A friend moved to BT (MotoGP was the only reason) and I struggled with setting up her e-mail in Livemail and Outlook 2007.
The BT guy (Bangalore) was looking at what we had done, sugessted a load of things I had already tried, he watched with the same results. He gave up and it went to a BT person in the UK who failed to get things sorted despite having full control and tried same settings.
Friend is now on WebMail only.

As for BT Sport, I have never known a more unprofessional outfit, live content goes silent as an offscreen interview is conducted, with commentators then commenting on the interview that we didn't hear! As for their website on Catch-Up TV. It shows you all the results unless you size the browser to a ridiculous value and click one obscure button. And then they show a picture of the first two! Always the first 2! Either amateurs or idiots who don't use their own products IMNSHO.
