Someone is selling a Yamaha APX700 locally.

Before I go off and see if I like it and how it feels - the acid test - anyone have any views on it?

Asking price is £250. They are someowhere between £400 and £500 new

I have the CPX900 the larger bulky version of this guitar. They are well made electro acoustics at that price point Not particularly acousitcally good but sound really good amped

Mine was straight out the box and playable - with a good neck

Worth the dosh depending on condition

Try and get a Fg365E {Unbeatable) or a LL11. The rosewood makes all the difference.

I think Ralph mcTells played one for a while on some tours. They did have neck problems for a while but I think they have addressed that. The twelve string version is nicely compact.

Pardon me for interrupting. At 689 cc, this baby will move.

Must be a big bodied dreadnought. Might be a bit bassy (and heavy?)

the apx's are lovely to handle and delightful when amplified - like someone said - you have to bash the thing if you have an audience when played acoustically .    it doesn't do subtlety at room temperature.

the 700 is one of the upmarket models - the next step up is the 900 - which is all solid wood. should be good - very good! the small body makes it feedback resistant.

I wish I had one !

I haven't played a recent Yamaha but was pondering a change of guitar.

I have a 40+ year old FG 180 which I play VERY rarely now as the neck feels a bit like a bannister rail to play - it is quite a big piece of wood compared to the Tanglewood that I normally play.

Just in the ideas stage at the moment but I may need a guitar with some electrics on rather than the across the bridge one I use on other guitars

I'm considering getting one of these. Easy to pack around and sounds great. Less like a uke and more like an Irish harp. Little as it is, you can still play real music on it.

Yamaha G-1 "guitalele."

I have an APX4-12, one of the most compact and playable 12 string guitars I have ever played. My opinion when considering another APX was that after the 4, the price doesn't reflect much improvement in quality. Sure, the woods get better etc, but as a playable nice guitar, I thought it best to save cash and go for a lower number.

Of course, second hand high number and the price is right? I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have to agree musket. I've owned low number apx's and they are wonderful. sorry I've got ride of them - the small size makes them very tactile.

I recorded my only real album with cpx8, which I loved at the time. its a great guitar. the one regret about it the album I have though is that I didn't record using a classic guitar - solid wood. recorded sound picks it out.

there you have it - my sparkling insight into the world of guitar playing.

Had one for many years, and it,s been brilliant. Have to give it some welly if played acoustically in a noisy session, but with a little amplification it has a real lift and is a joy to play. Body small and I tried to get my hand inside it to change a string and forced the back off. Glued it back with some wood glue and it,s as good as new.model is an apx 6 . good luck with your choice. All the best
