The decision to end anonymity even for those who donated when they
had been assured of anonymity has put potential donors off. No-one wants x100 potential offspring turning up "Daddy, I want some pocket money!".

True story. A medical student I taught last year confessed in the bar that the story was true. He hadn't seen his girlfriend for a while so got his hands on some Viagra ready. He used his intelligence and took it a couple of hours before she turned up at the local hotel he had booked, as he shared (shares..) digs with three others.

Her train was cancelled and she decided not to come, as it were.

He defrayed the cost of the viagra by donating sperm the following morning. After all, his well wasn't exactly running dry....

Reminds me of the guy who had heard about the'powers'of oysters , so had a dozen in preparation for a 'hot' date - Only eight of them worked !
