Subject: Lyr Add: Doc's Day - OCMS From: AnneMC Date: 08 Jul 14 - 06:18 PM This is from Old Crow Medicine Show's newly released CD 'Remedy' . I need some help with these 2 lines in the last verse, don't think I have it correct: Stage version with OCMS here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHb2in5-3W0 but I'm listening to my iTunes purchased track. "Now we're pickin' like a couple of native sons And that ol' hill billy he sure gone dancing away" DOC'S DAY (Old Crow Medicine Show) We were rollin' down King Street, a quarter to twelve And we found a little corner to play So we plugged in our guitars, tightened up the drum And hollered out Hey Hey Hey Then this old hill billy with a cheek full o' chaw Rambled on over to our tip jar He said I like what I see but it's not like I saw Way back in ol' Doc's Day He said : If you wanna rock, listen to Doc If you want the girls, better pick like Merle Cos them high country blues still blow all the women away So beat on the corner with your flat top box Pick on the banjo - boys don't stop ! Give me old time music, Lord make it hot Just like it was in Doc's day Well that old hill billy tugged on his whiskers, Spat a little juice from his jaw He said "Back in Deep Gap, I'm a- tellin' you Mister We'd be rockin' from dusk till dawn. Singing "Mama Don't Allow", and "A Bottle of Wine" "Dark as a Dungeon" and "Way Down in the Mine" If you can do like that, boys, I'll throw you a dime Just like in ol' Doc's Day If you wanna rock, listen to Doc If you want the girls, better pick like Merle Cos them high country blues still blow all the women away So beat on the corner with your flat top box Pick on the banjo - boys don't stop Give me old time music, Lord make it hot Just like it was in Doc's day So we sold our amps, and pawned our drums Now we're pickin like a couple of native sons And that ol' hill billy he sure gone dancing away Lord the crowds all packed and the cheering keen Leaning in close to hear the banjo ring And everybody raised their voice to sing Just like in ol' Doc's day |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Doc's Day - OCMS From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Jul 14 - 01:56 PM There are several copies of the lyrics at various lyric web sites (for example, here), and they all say: And that old hillbilly he's sure buck dancing away Lord the crowd's all packed in at Cherry and King I suppose "Cherry and King" is the name of a venue of some sort, but I have failed to identify it with Google. It might also refer to an intersection, Cherry Street and King Street being fairly common street names in the US. |
