Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Getting Younger From: GUEST,Jono2009 Date: 12 Jul 14 - 11:19 PM Hi guys, since I posted those lyrics, I recalled the chorus: It is duet song . . . there is another couple verses that I cannot recall - but this is the chorus. I'm getting younger Lets treat him kind I'm getting younger It's all in his mind I can do anything that I use to do Here's getting old he's just about through |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Getting Younger From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Jul 14 - 10:50 AM The US Catalog of Copyright Entries lists a song called I'M GETTING YOUNGER EVERY DAY, with words by Geoffrey Clayton and music by Harry Hudson, published by Peter Maurice Music Co., Inc., copyright 1933. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Getting Younger From: Jim Dixon Date: 25 Jul 14 - 12:31 PM There's also GRANDPA'S GETTIN' YOUNGER EV'RY DAY, lyrics of which have been posted in another thread (click link). I don't think it's the song that GUEST,Jono2009 requested, though, because it doesn't contain the lyrics he quoted. It does mention Grandpa's being 93, however, but that could be a coincidence just for the convenience of the rhyme. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I'm Getting Younger From: GUEST,AC Hill Date: 28 Jun 17 - 06:33 PM I'M GETTING YOUNGER Well I'm just like a young spring chicken, I'm just beginning to start my kicking; Age don't mean a thing to me, I'll still be going when I'm ninety-three. CHORUS I'm getting younger, (Let's treat him kind) I'm getting younger, (It's all in his mind) I can do anything that I use to do; Here's getting old he's just about through. Walking down the street on a windy day, I met a little thing with a swing and a sway; Along came a puff of wind, a blowing mighty stout, What happened next would make your eyes pop out. |
Subject: Lyr Add: MAMA'S GETTING YOUNGER; PAPA'S GETTING.. From: Jim Dixon Date: 30 Jun 17 - 11:32 PM Another song on the theme of getting younger— MAMA'S GETTING YOUNGER; PAPA'S GETTING OLDER EACH DAY Written by Richard [Duck?] Baker As recorded by Duck Baker on "The King of Bongo Bong" (2011) Well, Mama she said to Papa: "Honey, you're growing cold." Papa said right back to Mama: "Well, baby, you're getting too old." Well, now, Mama said: "Is that a fact? I'm 'on' open up your eyes." Took her face to the beauty shop and, oh, boy, what a surprise! Well, Mama's getting young; Papa's getting old. Mama's getting hot but Papa's getting cold. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day—day by day, Well, Mama likes this; Papa likes that. Mama's getting thin but Papa's getting fat. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day. If you see Mama with a head on her that looks so cute and sweet. Papa goes around with a long red beard that looks like shredded wheat. Well, Mama's complexion blooms like a rose. Papa's does too, but it's going to his nose. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day. * Well, Mama's getting young and Papa's getting old. Mama's getting hot but Papa's getting cold. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day—day by day, Well, Mama's in the nightclub shakin' her hips Papa shakes, too, but he's blue around the lips. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day. If you see Mama in a pink pajama, man, there's just no flaws. Papa goes to bed with his long red flannels; he looks like Santa Claus. Well, Mama's complexion blooms like a rose. Papa's does too, but it's going to his nose. Mama's getting younger and Papa's getting older each day. |
Subject: Lyr Add: GETTING YOUNGER EVERY YEAR (Kander & Ebb) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 Jul 17 - 08:20 AM Another song on the theme of getting younger: GETTING YOUNGER EVERY YEAR Words by Fred Ebb, music by John Kander, from the musical "The Happy Time" (1968) As recorded by John Kander & Fred Ebb on "John Kander: Hidden Treasures, 1950-2015" (2015) Venez, mes enfants: today is my birthday. A little respect to your bon-père is due.... I've had many birthdays; well, I have a system That lets your bon-père stay un enfant too. Come wish me bon fête, but let's make it clear: I'm getting younger ev'ry year. I find it a pleasure when birthdays appear. I'm getting younger ev'ry year. I made up my mind when I was fifty-seven That the year after that I'd be forty-six, So come and see me next year if you have a chance, And maybe I'll be trying on my first long pants. I don't beg your pardon if I get the urge To act adolescent now and then, Because the old rooster's crowing; at the rate he's going Pretty soon he'll start all over again (all over again), All over again (all over again). Well, we just remembered it's our birthday too. We're getting younger ev'ry year. We find it a pleasure when birthdays are due. We're getting younger ev'ry year. We made up our minds when we were thirty-seven That the year after that we'd be twenty-one, And since we're counting backwards with each cake we slice, Next year we may pass around that nice slice twice. We don't beg your pardon if we get the urge To act adolescent now and then, Because the old girls are crowing; at the rate we're going, Pretty soon we'll start all over again (all over again), All over again (all over again), Well, we just remembered it's our birthday too. We're getting younger ev'ry year. We find it a pleasure when birthdays are due. We're getting younger ev'ry year. We made up our minds when we were twenty-seven That the year after that we'd be sweet sixteen, So come and see us next year if you're passing by, And you can wheel the carriage in— And you can close the safety pin— And you can help my mama keep my diaper dry. I don't beg your pardon if I get the urge To act adolescent now and then, Because the old folks are crowing (the old folks are crowing). At the rate we're going (at the rate we're going), Pretty soon we'll start all over again (all over again), All over again (all over again). [repeat ad lib] |
Subject: Lyr Add: MAMMA’S GROWN YOUNG, PAPA’S GROWN OLD From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Feb 22 - 08:49 PM This is probably the original of the song I posted back on 30-Jun-2017: From the sheet music at Baylor University: MAMMA’S GROWN YOUNG, PAPA’S GROWN OLD Words by R. P. Weston and Bert Lee; music by Harris Weston, revised by Calvin Grooms ©1927; revised edition ©1928 by Francis, Day, & Hunter, Ltd., London. 1. Oh, gee! Listen to me: My mother dear was turning grey, And Pa would look at her and say: “You’re getting older ev’ry day.” Poor Mom said: “If I am, I’m going to open all your eyes;” So she took her face to a beauty place And, oh boy, what a surprise! CHORUS 1: Mamma’s grown young; Papa’s grown old. Mamma’s grown hot; Papa’s grown cold. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. Mamma’s grown thin; Papa’s grown fat. Mamma’s like this; Papa’s like that. Mamma’s just blooming; Papa’s just fading away. Mamma with her boyish bob looks nifty, cute and sweet. Papa has a straggly beard that looks like shredded wheat. Mamma’s at nightclubs shaking her hips. Papa shakes too; he’s blue in the lips. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. 2. Poor Pop, thin on the top, Begins to look an old “has-been,” While Mamma in her crêpe de Chine Although she’s fifty, looks eighteen. Pa sighs, sorrowf’ly cries: “She’s not a wife to me somehow.” When he calls her “Ma” she says: “Stop that, Pa. Just call me ‘Honey Babe’ now.” CHORUS 2: Mamma’s grown young; Papa’s grown old. Mamma’s grown hot; Papa’s grown cold. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. Mamma’s grown strong; Papa has aged. Mamma’s having the coroner paged. Mamma’s just blooming; Papa’s just fading away. Mamma in her pink pajamas hasn’t any flaws. Papa in his old red nightie looks like Santy Claus. Mamma’s complexion blooms like a rose. Papa’s complexion’s flown to his nose. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. CHORUS 3: Mamma’s grown young; Papa’s grown old. Mamma’s grown hot; Papa’s grown cold. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. Mamma’s grown fast; Papa’s grown slow. Mamma’s wound up; Papa won’t go. Mamma’s just blooming; Papa’s just fading away. Mamma only wants a lipstick when she’s walking out. Papa must have two sticks ‘cause he suffers with the gout. Mamma displays the stockings she wears. Papa shows his, but nobody cares. Mamma gets younger; Papa gets older each day. |

Subject: Lyr Add: MAMA'S GETTING HOT AND PAPA'S GETTING COL From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Feb 22 - 09:04 PM This is the song that recently piqued my interest. I was looking for songs with the word “cold” in the title, to be posted in this thread. First I found this song and transcribed it, then I found that there were many variations (see above). Since I’ve already transcribed it, I figure I might as well post it here, even though it’s not more remarkable than all the other versions. My transcription from the recording at the Internet Archive: MAMA'S GETTING HOT AND PAPA'S GETTING COLD As recorded by Jimmie Davis on Decca 5249 B (1936) Mama’s gettin' young; Papa’s gettin' old. Mama’s gettin' hot; Papa’s gettin' cold. Mama’s gettin' younger; Papa’s gettin' older each day. Mama’s like this; Papa’s like that. Mama’s gettin' thin; Papa’s hog fat. Mama’s gettin' younger; Papa’s gettin' older each day. Mama with her boyish bob looks nifty, cute, and sweet. Papa with his long red beard looks like shredded wheat. Mama’s complexion looks like a rose. Papa’s does too, but it’s goin’ to his nose. Mama’s gettin' younger; Papa’s gettin' older each day. [Instrumental break] Mama’s gettin' young; Papa’s gettin' old. Mama’s gettin' hot; Papa’s gettin' cold. Mama gets younger; Papa’s gettin’ older each day. Mama’s at the night club shakin' her hips. Papa shakes too but he’s blue around the lips. Mama gets younger; Papa gets older each day. Mama in her pink pajamas, baby, there ain’t no flaws. Poor old Papa in his long-handled drawers looks like Santa Claus. Mama’s gettin' young; Papa’s gettin' old. Mama’s gettin' hot; Papa’s gettin' cold. Mama gets younger; Papa gets older each day. |
