Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Union Baby (Woody Guthrie) From: BrooklynJay Date: 15 Jul 14 - 12:39 AM The previous post referred to a page from the online Sing Out! Song Index. According to this listing, the song was not written by Woody Guthrie. However... We might be talking about a different song with the same title. The Guthrie Archives catalogue mentions a song called Union Baby, but it would appear to be one of Woody's unpublished compositions, so finding the lyrics may be difficult. Jim Longhi's book ("Woody, Cisco and Me") has Woody referring to a song called Union Mattress, Union Baby. But Longhi had a few memory lapses in the book, so I would be a little suspicious of this title as printed. Jay |
Subject: Lyr Add: MY WESTERN UNION BABY (from Keith Lloyd) From: Jim Dixon Date: 24 Jul 14 - 03:13 PM This western swing tune is probably not the one you had in mind, but it's fun. MY WESTERN UNION BABY As sung by Keith Lloyd and Sons of the Golden West (1950) on "My Western Union Baby" and other compilations. 1. You're my Western Union baby; you're my telegraphin' gal. It's always an emergency and trouble all the while. There's no time to write a letter and too late to catch a train, But you'll be home tomorrow and you'll never leave again. CHORUS: Just send a wire by Western Union. I never see you anyhow. It seems we can't have a reunion. You're my Western Union gal who broke her vow. 2. When you get yourself in trouble you remember I'm around, But it seems when all your debts are paid, another love you've found, But let his bankroll start to drop and then you start your fire, And turn the flame right on me by sendin' me a wire. CHORUS |
