No confidential information was exchanged. If you want, I can send you the hyperlink to his web site, but as a local, I kind of assume you already know all that. |

Subject: RE: Are there mudcats in northern Colorado? From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Jul 14 - 08:47 PM Hi, toadfrog - I remember you well. I meant to post something to the thread, but then I got distracted and forgot. As I recall, you're going up near Fort Collins. I don't know of anything there, but there may be - but you're only an hour from Denver (I live an hour from everywhere, so it doesn't seem like much to me). I had a wonderful time at Swallow Hill Music when I worked in Denver in 1999 - lots of stuff to do there. I did not find time to get to Harry Tuft's Denver Folklore Center, but it's legendary. I've had some correspondence with two guys who do cowboy stuff, Mark Gardner and Rex Rideout. Both are nice guys and great musicians. I see Rex has already posted. He has done some wonderful projects with cowboy music. From those four sources, you should get lots of help. I think I'd live in Boulder if I lived anywhere in Colorado, but I suspect it's expensive. It's the only place in the world I've ever gotten a parking ticket, so it was expensive for me. Best of luck to you. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Are there mudcats in northern Colorado? From: toadfrog Date: 21 Jul 14 - 07:46 PM Thanks REx, that sounds like useful information. I will for sure follow up with Fort Collins Traditional. I had not heard of Avogadro's Number, which sounds like something one can google for. |
Subject: RE: Are there mudcats in northern Colorado? From: Rex Date: 21 Jul 14 - 03:32 PM There is a fairly active music scene in Fort Collins. I've been impressed by what I find there. Fort Collins Traditional Music would be a good start. http://www.meetup.com/Fort-Collins-Traditional-Music/members/ KUNC is a community NPR station that promotes a wide varienty of music all along the Front Range. Follow the playlists by my friend, Wendy Wham. She focuses on folk music in her radio shows and is well connected to folk music in the area. http://www.kunc.org/ Then of course there is Swallow Hill Music in Denver. They host acts from around the country and promote the music in the area. http://swallowhillmusic.org/ Finally, I feel the center of folk music in Northern Colorado is Avogadro's Number in Fort Collins. If you hang out there, you will be in touch and in tune. It is a worthy place to get to know. http://www.avogadros.com/ If you want more info, send me a note. I am often performing along the Front Range somewhere. Rex |
Subject: RE: Are there mudcats in northern Colorado? From: toadfrog Date: 20 Jul 14 - 12:55 AM Thanks Gargoyle! Sounds like very useful advice! If you have a minute, can you answer a couple follow-up questions, Who is there at Fort Collins? Are they organized? How does one contact them? Should I be asking this by personal messages? I haven't been too active on Mudcat lately, and hope I'm not breaking any rules. |
