It's only just over a month to The Wail (formerly Wareham Wail), which offers the usual enjoyable weekend of good singing, good food & drink and good company, starting on August 29th (the weekend after the Bank Holiday).

Weekend ticket prices have been held at the same price for the 8th consecutive year, so at £20 for a weekend ticket (which includes the Mediaeval Banquet) and £14 for a meal ticket, it must be the best festival deal on the planet.

You can book online at http://wail.org.uk/ and starting this year we are able to take payments via PAYM, which allows you to transfer money using a mobile phone number. All the other methods of payment - card, Paypal, BACS, cheque - are still available. You can also still book by sending a paper copy of the booking form in the post but we encourage everyone to book online if possible as it is so much easier. If you want a meal ticket, Nicky has asked that you
book at least a week in advance to ensure that she gets enough food in.

The Wail site is completely self-contained with everything, including a shower, within easy reach. If you don't wish to camp, there are a number of B&Bs within a mile or so of the campsite. See the B&B page of the website for details:

After the huge popularity of the "Sing a Song of Silver" session at last
year's Wail (which included Pimms served by certain Chippendale lookalikes), there is talk of having something similar this year - but with a Christmas theme! More info shortly but get your Christmas jumpers ready!

Also from last year, Peter Collins wishes to thank all those who put in
donations for costume hire. The total was £70 and this has been donated to the PSPA (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association)

Thank you for reminding me about the Chippendale lookalikes - how could I have needed reminding......? I'm intrigued to think how you could have a version with Christmas jumpers!

But in case anyone thinks this sounds a bit silly, it is, for those who want to rediscover their inner child. But it is entirely voluntary and doesn't detract from the lovely singing.

Given the state of the so called 'chippendales' bodies, I am more inclined towards calling them the 'chipmunks'. Good fun though.
Indulging the inner child is good for the soul once in a while.
I however will not be exposing my body to the public for two years in a row. (need to keep the punters coming in) I however cannot speak for the other 'chippendale'. Looking forward to the weekend and the Christmas session with a new disguise. (not Robin)

The other Chip'n'Wail has no plans to expose his vile body this year. Last year, on being told that he had to wear a bow-tie to serve Pimms, he said that he would not be seen dead in a bow-tie and a checked shirt - and promptly removed his shirt. First of all, if you tried to access the Wail website at the beginning of this month you may have had some trouble because it was down during most of Sidmouth week. I'd like to think that, just like the Glastonbury Festival website, the problems were caused by an overwhelming number of people trying to book tickets but I doubt it somehow :-) Anyway it's all up and running again now

Last year we had a competition for the best suggestion for a special event to mark the Silver Anniversary. The winner was Tony Day of the Exmouth Shantymen who receives 2 free tickets to this year's Wail for his suggestion of a themed sing. This led to the "Sing a Song of Silver" session on the Saturday afternoon MC'd by Jon Heslop where, in addition to songs about silver, we had Pimms served by the folk-world's answer to the Chippendales

It proved to be a very popular session and a number of people asked if we would run something similar this year. We're therefore going to have a christmas party! Jon will lead it again and the same barmen will be there but I understand that, because of the December temperature, they'll be somewhat more comprehensively dressed :-) Father Christmas will also be in attendance (guess who?!)

The christmas songs will be complemented by some seasonal drinks and nibbles. (Does anyone know where you can get mince pies in August??) If you're planning to be there it would add to the atmosphere if you bring something festive to wear - possibly a Santa hat, or maybe that ghastly christmas jumper you've been trying to get rid of ever since Auntie Molly gave it to you. And who knows - if you're very good you may get to sit on Santa's knee...

Well another wonderful weekend has been had. I slept for 14 hours when we got home but so worth it. Lots of photos to share with you when my energy levels are back to normal ( and I find the camera) but in the meantime thank you all so much for your work, your participation, your mad mince pie or other skills and your glorious music.
Those of you still around at four yesterday might have noticed a meeting of festival elves. We were trying to think of ways to make the Wail even better for people, so if you have any suggestions, criticisms or even praise for what you think we do well, please let me know and we will do what we can to incoporate your feedback into our planning for next year which starts......erm, well, yesterday.

It was a wonderful weekend. Looked to be new faces around
(or returners?)I think it is difficult to improve on what happens. The Crew are brilliant with all their background hard work (and partying now Nick is back, Ha Ha! sorry Nick)that this cannot be improved upon. The kitchen staff are magnificent at providing such good food for us all. Good variety of fun, alongside of singing and the great comaraderie that develops.   Allan his wife and you and your family organise very well. How do you improve on that? The themed Saturday sessions seem to work well. Maybe a flyer to all past Wailers to find out if they plan to come along next year. Thankyou all very much. Such a relaxing weekend where all one has to do is sing and enjoy oneself.

Only one suggestion (and I think Mr Ross has already spoken about it to Nick Hurst)

Can the Sing Tents be placed a bit nearer to the loos ?

It takes as long to walk across the field/ campsite to the facilities as it does to do whatever you have to do when you get there. Well it does for me anyway being the physical wreck that I am.

ALready been brought up Dave but it is an issue with drainage and how the electricity is brought to the marquees meaning that neither is readily interchangable. There is some more research going on though. Allan, thank you, your appreciation and hard work are both very much appreciated.

Might a Tardis type port-a-loo behind the tents in their current positions be a compromise solution.

Electricity and drainage could then stay much as they are now
