Subject: RE: Musical objects at the Pitt Rivers (BBC) From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 02 Aug 14 - 09:49 AM I tried, I tried. But listening to people talk in general terms about instruments I can't even see, much less hear, seemed futile. And what is the instrument being played in the background? They don't even say! (I suspect it's a Lyon and Healy electronic harp.) |
Subject: RE: Musical objects at the Pitt Rivers (BBC) From: GUEST,Anne Neilson Date: 02 Aug 14 - 10:33 AM Hi, Leeneia. Fairly sure (from the sound of it and the reference made to it slightly later by the speaker) that the instrument concerned is a Kora -- described as a West african harp/lute. There are many videos on YouTube, and players to look out for are the likes of Toumani Diabate and Solo Cissokho. (Apologies for my ineptitude in posting clicky links!) |

Subject: RE: Musical objects at the Pitt Rivers (BBC) From: GUEST, topsie Date: 02 Aug 14 - 12:23 PM Looks like the buyer of the eBay kora was determined to have it. It went cheap because there was only one buyer, but they had upped their maximum bid several times, so you would have had to bid high to beat them. |
