Mary Hopkin does a beautiful cover of Billy Ed Wheeler's great song,
"The Coming of the Roads." Not sure what album it is from.
Found it on Youtube. Judy Collins also recorded it many years ago as did many others. Really love Mary's cover a lot!

Sorry I am married to a Hopkins hence my miss spelling error.
Sad she is not singing in public, but surely a lovely act to book for a small festival.Perhaps we can entice her back on stage.

She was on my mind recently so I looked her up on Google and found this interesting gem -

Early in 1990, Hopkin sang with The Chieftains at the London Palladium in a charity show and later joined them on a tour of the UK.

She continued to do projects of her choosing, working with people such as Julian Colbeck; she wrote the lyrics and performed a song on his CD Back to Bach. Also, there was Marc Cerrone's The Collector, a stage play/opera, for which she performed two songs on the CD and video. She worked again with old friends, the guitarist Brian Willoughby and Dave Cousins (of Strawbs) on their CD The Bridge. She also appeared on a Beatles' tribute album by RAM Pietsch.

In 1996, the Welsh label Sain bought Cambrian's back catalogue and released all of Hopkin's Welsh recordings on a CD called Y Caneuon Cynnar/The Early Recordings,[31] which removed the overdubbed drums found on the Decca recordings.

In 1999, she again joined The Chieftains on their UK tour and, later that year, performed concerts in Scotland with Benny Gallagher and Jim Diamond.[7] There were also three TV documentaries about her, one each for HTV (1998), BBC Television (1998) and S4C (2000).[7]

I have done more searches and can't find any recordings of her collaboration with The Chieftans.

Does anyone have any?

I see Mary's daughter, Jessie Lee Morgan, is appearing at The Half Moon, Putney at 8pm on 27th October 2022 in a show entitled "Those Were the Days". She'll be singing songs by women from 1968 to 1976, namely Mary Hopkin, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Dusty Springfield, Janis (Joplin and Ian) and Sandy Denny.

Interesting and quite a coincidence!

While searching for Mary performing with the Chieftans I came across Joni Mitchell performing "The Magdalene Laundries" with them. Powerful stuff.

Mary is making great albums released on her own terms and her own label Space records. No longer a puppet of the industry. She won't sing live, she won't do interviews. Mary has become a great singer/songwriter, but people keep thinking of her for the Apple days. Daughter Jessica also writes and sings her own material and has a fine voice of a different timbre, she acts as a go between for Mary on the recording side. You can find Mary on Twitter, just being an everyday person.. yet millions still view her Apple days videos -frozen in time. Her voice is like fine wine, and her songs show the wisdom of years. She has a new album coming out soon. But her last self-penned albums are out there and well worth checking out.

Its always great to have Twitter exchanges with Mary - just don't mention Eurovision (she hated Knock Knock Who's There!)

Ha! Good pun Dave! Poor Mary, every time anyone posts a nostalgia theme to her.. someone ALWAYS has to make a 'Those Were The Days' title pun. 50 years of people thinking they are the first, made worse by Twitter. Mary recorded a lot of good folk songs (and some pop and showbiz songs, that aren't always quite the direction she maybe could have gone), but as I said now writes her own fine songs. If only she had been given more choice earlier, but she was very young when she had that meteoric rise.
