Well, my memory's shot...
and I don't know much about railroad engines, but I'm pretty good with a search engine. All I could remember from the song was "if our baby is dead, then show the red..." So I searched for "show the red" and came up with this (click).

I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, ya know....

Does anyone know a railroad song about a engineer forced to go to work while his child is dying, asking that a green signal be shown if the child is alive and red if she is dead-these words are in the chorus- -I have heard this song some years ago-maybe bluegrass? Thanks
