Is that the one that goes 'Little boy kneels at the foot of the bed' etc.? If so I can dig out the words and do the tune from memory in ABCs. Or the Buckingham Palace one? Or?

There were all sorts of Christopher Robin verses (some not written by A A Milne). I have a vague school time memory of one with "lily white fingers carressing his hairs" instead of the "hush, hush, whisper who dares, Christopher Robin is saying his prayers".

Strangest thing of all is I believe that the real life Christopher Robin (A A Milnes son - I think) was in fact an athiest.

Re the Buckingham Palace bit my memory only goes this far:

They're changing guards at Buckingham Palace
Christopher Robin went down with Alice
Alice is marrying one of the guards
"A soldiers life is terribly hard" , said Alice.

it's the one that talks about CR going out to the 100 acre wood, talks about pooh and the others, I forget, could get more details later if needed.....

Might be a peter paul and mary song, or one of those types.....

I always preferred our playground versions:

Crash, bang, snigger who dares, Christopher Robin has fallen downstairs....

Or (a bit later at Grammar School)

Oh, My! snigger who dares, Christopher Robin has no pubic hairs....

Strange sort of school I went to, where after a good 18 years I can remember one line of doggerel, but not a single bloody word of any physics lesson I ever attended, and there were 3 years worth of them!

If it's the one Musicman mentioned (Pooh, etc.), it was a chart hit for, and I believe written by, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Shouldn't be too hard to find the recording.

I have this music, lyrics and chords at home in an old Rock and Roll book, something like "120 Great Songs of the '60's and '70's. I'll check to see if there are any differences.

Hi
I have just read this thread about Christopher Robin. It brought back some great memories of my Dad who used to sing to me instead of telling me bed-time stories (usually from the bathroom while he was having a shave). The version he sang was the one Jo Taylor mentioned about the little boy kneeling at the foot of the bed. I would be very grateful if Jo or anyone could send me the lyrics and chords (and abc file if possible) so I can sing it for my little grandson.
Many thanks and Happy St Patrick's Day to everyone.

Gracie Fields - Christopher Robin Is Saying His Prayers

http://allpoetry.com/poem/8518995-Vespers-by-A.A._Milne

Vespers by A.A. Milne

A. A. (Alan Alexander) Milne (1882-1956),

Little Boy kneels at the foot of the bed,
Droops on the little hands little gold head.
Hush! Hush! Whisper who dares!
Christopher Robin is saying his prayers.

God bless Mummy. I know that's right.
Wasn't it fun in the bath to-night?
The cold's so cold, and the hot's so hot.
Oh! God bless Daddy - I quite forgot.

If I open my fingers a little bit more,
I can see Nanny's dressing-gown on the door.
It's a beautiful blue, but it hasn't a hood.
Oh! God bless Nanny and make her good.

Mine has a hood, and I lie in bed,
And pull the hood right over my head,
And I shut my eyes, and I curl up small,
And nobody knows that I'm there at all.

Oh! Thank you, God, for a lovely day.
And what was the other I had to say?
I said "Bless Daddy," so what can it be?
Oh! Now I remember it. God bless Me.

Little Boy kneels at the foot of the bed,
Droops on the little hands little gold head.
Hush! Hush! Whisper who dares!
Christopher Robin is saying his prayers.

Some of the poems by Milne (with some help and hums by Pooh) were set to music by Harold Fraser Simpson - including "Halfway Down", which became a hit in the 80's(?), sung by Kermit's nephew Robin, on the Muppet Show.
