so very sad - he was a marvellous chap, and great musician, performer and teacher. Dorset won't be quite as beautiful without his great good humour and talent.

I first saw Pete and the Yetties at my first Sidmouth - and most recently a couple of years ago when he played at a fundraiser for Wimborne Minster festival, shortly before Christmas 2012. He was under the impression he'd be playing for a ceilidh, but it turned out to be a concert so he busked it and gave us a thoroughly entertaining evening (of course). Very sorry to hear he's gone.

I'm really sorry that Pete has died. He was a great inspiration to me when I first took up the accordion in 1969/70, and came to know him personally. He was one of nature's gentlemen, and I shall miss him RIP.

Thanks to Derek Schofield for reporting this. Bonny announces on the website that Pete passed away 'earlier this evening', but as it is undated I searched online for more details. This appears to be the only other report. Given that a significant proportion of the British population listen unknowingly to Pete (and Bonny, Mac and Bob) every Sunday morning before and after one of Radio 4's flagship programmes, I would have thought that his passing would have warranted a mention by the BBC.

I have followed The Yetties from 1979 until their retirement in 2011, buying all their albums and attending as many of their concerts and ceilidhs as I could. In my view Pete was one of the most gifted and talented yet under-rated entertainers that Britain has ever produced; I have heard that he was regarded as one of the best accordion players of his generation. And he could play the bowed psaltery so sweetly as to almost bring a tear to the eye. Then he could move you from tears to laughter - few could tell a joke with such humour and with such an effortless, natural delivery. Most entertainers feel like they are trying to make you laugh. But Pete didn't need to try.

Thank you, Pete. You helped to make the world a brighter and happier place. You have a place in my heart for ever.

Thank you, Pete. You made my world a brighter place. You have a place in my heart for ever.

I was about to write a few words but I find that the last two lines of the post by Stephen Challis have said it all for me. I hope you won't mind my borrowing your words Stephen, but I knew Pete for many years and my life was always brighter when he was around. Goodbye Pete, thanks for the memories.
My wife and I send our sympathies to his family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Pete's death I was privileged to teach his children Jamie and Sarah and Pete was a great supporter of The Abbey School in so many ways.He became one of us !
Pete had so many talents both as a person and as an entertainer He was a bright star in the sky and loved by all those who knew him.
Pete was a true son of Dorset and William Barnes 's verse says it all.
"But now I hope his kindly face
Is gone to vind a better place.
But still wi' vok'a -left behind
He'll always be a -kept in mind "

Curse these bloody tap touchpads you can't turn off!
As I was saying, I didn't see the Yetties that many times, 4 or 5 at most, but they were always a worthwhile night out.
Another of the old stagers gone from the Folk World, he will be remembered fondly by many.

Oh bugger! So sorry to read this. The Yetties were my pin-ups in my teens (when the other girls had The Osmonds on their bedroom walls!) I always listed them together with Bonnie Dobson as my big folk influences as I grew up. My thoughts are with the extended Yettie family.

We have known Peter for some 30 years and he became a wonderful friend. He was a lovely guy and a totally under rated musician who will be sorely missed throughout the country. To see the relationship he had with the disabled at the Yetties last concert will always be in our memory.

Rest in Peace Peter and every wish to Marian, the family and Bonnie & Mac.

I remember The Yetties from my days at Yeovil Folk Club in 1965-66, before they went "Pro" one or two of them worked on the Yeovil Corporation dustcart ! I will always remember his divine rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas " on bowed psaltery in Christchurch a few years back. RIP.

Having appeared with them so many times - Oh Dear.

internet browsing tonight and found this.
Saddened to have just learned of Pete's passing.
I attended the West End folk night for a number of years in the 80's & 90's.
Pete was a great front man, a brilliant musician and with loads of Bon a vie. The Yetties gave so many a chance with a floor spot.
Pete - you will be sadly missed but also with a great admiration from everyone for all you did.
