Tonight kept getting what I guess is a pop-up, though opening in a new tab - while watching music videos on youtube - to upgrade flash player to an HD version. It is not from Adobe and says so, but says it is compatible and includes security upgrades. Got it 3 times and closed it each time. Anyone else?

This started occurring just after an automatic Firefox update was downloaded and installed. Don't know they are related. Could be coinsidental.

If it matters, I have an iMac operating system OS X 10.8.5 Have the option of updating free to Maverick but was advised to not do so.

IF...what you have works...WHY fix it?

Sincerely,

Gargoyle

Lots of nasty script out there waiting for the chance to download. Perhaps, two out of one hundred are bogus. Flip the coin enough times....and "heads I win and tales you lose" will arrive on your cello base.

That sounds quite fishy. If you want or need the current flash player, you'd better download it directly from Adobe.

Have the option of updating free to Maverick but was advised to not do so.

I have no problems with it except that it's even more a memory hog than Mountain Lion. With only 4GB of RAM it was really sluggish so I had to add more.

Firefox does not update Flash, nor suggest you do.

If you google you'll see there is malware that will do what you describe - including on Macs.
