The simplistic cartoon 'Peppa Pig' is one of the UK's most loved of toddler's and childrens' t.v. programmes. It is simple, depicts loving family life, and is gentle and funny.

But it has just been declared racist because it is about a cartoon pig - and some folk don't like pigs.

I call this positive discrimination in favour of the complainer. and I don't suppose they will find her. all they will have to go on , I presume, is eyes behind a complete covering.
I would probably do the same with our disability child.

I'm not sure why these people felt the need to tell a national newspaper about the silly behaviour of a lone bus driver? Surely they could have taken his stupidity up with the company who hires him?

It's what I tend to do when encountering poor service. Most companies want to know when their staff are behaving stupidly, and are very apologetic for it.

Without a reliable description of what went on, it is difficult to say. It is not impossible that there was a racist incident behind this: I've certainly seen a great deal of taunting which, when challenged, led to the perpetrator claiming everything was entirely innocent. CCTV, if taken, would clarify things.

I must admit, my granddaughter prefers The Gruffalo. He eats people, so I doubt racism is high on the list of demonising childrens' fictitous heros.

Christians don't hold fish in high regard. It's simply the modern adoption of the Ichthys symbol, and what it represents.

Jews and Muslims, for reasons best known to themselves, simply believe that: "the pig, because it has a split hoof, but does not chew the cud; is unclean for you."

It is in no way considered sacred.

Guest...Fish and fishing appear in the gospels over and over, and are therefor held in high regard both symbolically and actually. Being Anglican, there's a possibility that some won't consider me Christian or Christian enough to know.

The point was that to mimic or make fun of one's chosen animal species (and not even a specific individual animal) does not mean an insult to its holder. The folks in the OP's article seem very thin-skinned to me, not to mention determined to make something that wasn't about them, about them.

Not animated? Tried catching a bugger in a field lately? Granted, it was to return it to the farm next door, but he was certainly animated. A few weeks later, our neighbours gave us a freezer load of different cuts, all from the one scaring the horses that Thursday morning.

It's Sunday, the aga is turned back on for the winter and I have been to the freezer to get him thawing. Looking forward to crackling the likes of we haven't had all summer. (Must dash. Got to get the yorkshires batter made up ready and cross the farting crackers. Ours aren't ready yet till first frost but these supermarket ones seem ok.)

It's quite possible pigs made a significant contribution to human civilisation because they eat anything. Mediaeval cities used to keep a herd of semi-feral pigs to clean the streets in the days before sewerage. The day they were released often still remains a half-day for businesses, because back in those days, it was dangerous to meet them.

Which is more than likely a public health matter in its origin. In the absence of refrigeration pork decays very quickly and is extremely dangerous, even poisonous, when eaten in that state.

Hot climates, where Jews and Muslims originated, merely accelerate the process.

The religious injunctions are a remarkably good way to persuade people to comply with a ban.

It works much the same as superstition - tell people not to walk under ladders because it might be dangerous, and they may well carry on walking under ladders (muttering "'elf 'n' safety gone mad"). Tell them it's unlucky to walk under ladders and they are more likely to go round, which is safer both for them and for the person working at the top of the ladder.

I know this is "casting pearls before swine" ....but regarding "fish" and Christians.

In the early, days of "The Church" .... dust and dirt covered the world. A Christian might be subject to death...frequently by stoning, (witness Saul/Paul and Stephen).

It is a common bond across the globe....like a mutual fraternity, Christians want to share, with other Christians, about their personal experience with Jesus Christ.

Squatting face to face (chairs were rare and few) in discussion, one person might draw a figure of "(" in the sand. If the other person was also a Christian, they might draw the inverse ")" with the "head" touching and the "tail" crossing.

It was a symbol of a "fish". In Greek "Ichthus" aka "Fish." The word was an achronym in Greek for "Jesus, Christ, God, Son, Savior".

The "squiggle" in the sand was the proposed opening of a discussion about a shared spiritual experience.

This is a man who tells us it is alright to bomb schools and hospitals, that Muslims are second class citizens and that everybody else is wrong. I mention A council of mosques and here, months later he is still saying my THE council of mosques doesn't exist. He supports anti gay shit from Akenaton on the basis reading a paper and confusing it with ONS statistics and claims to be a member of a far right political party in one post then denies it when confronted.

I feel the need because it would be a sad day if his views were unchallenged. I go out of my way to get some of my posts deleted because I too don't like them, but sometimes they have to be said. Getting them deleted after a few hours is a compromise.

I like the Greek fish you can get for your car with little legs on it and in the middle, instead of the Greek letters, it says Darwin. My son had a Greek Fish on the end of a skewer with the devil barbecuing it on one car he had a few years ago.

Peppa would eat fish regardless of course. Whether that makes Peppa racist is another barrel of fish entirely
